I would rather use the money for midfield and defenders as we got enough attacking players. If we find top quality attacking players that fine.  We don't need more strikers apart from on loan.

We have got a number of attacking players, but if we continue with the same formation and playing one striker, we have only really got Gestede and Agbonlahor who can play that role.  Bruce doesn't seem to fancy Gestede and Agbonlahor is unreliable at best, so it would not surprise me if we were after a striker in January.

I think he'll bring a couple of midfielders in January. It would be a lot to ask the current preferred three of Jedinak, Westwood and Gardner to get through next 30 games or so without any back up. I think we might see another centre half in as well.

I also seem to recall Dr Tony stating that they had striker contingency plans for the ACON in January, so it would not be beyond the realms of reality to see another striker signed.

I think that with 2 x RBs, 2 x LBs and 4 x CBs, with a large combined total of PL game experience, that Bruce may stick as far as the defence is concerned.

The midfield needs an addition but it has to be the right addition.  I am 99% certain that Bruce will have 1 or 2 in mind already.  We do have cover in midfield and if we were to be chasing a game, I'd expect a Grealish or an Ayew to be bought on in any case.

For me, the more I think about it, the more I think a number 9 would galvanize us.  We play differently to someone like Newcastle who played on Sunday with Gayle as a lone striker.  We don't get the players into the box as they do, our style is different (although ever improving).  A presence as well as someone who can score goals would make all the difference.  Gabby, Gestede or Hernandez would be a no brainer for me.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Kodjia scored 20 goals for Bristol City last season playing for the most part as a central striker. So I think it's safe to say that he can play there if asked.

I'd have no concerns about him there with two or three of Grealish, McCormack, Adomah and Ayew tucked in behind

Let's wait until the summer for a striker as with our promotion and Palaces relegation we can have Benteke back (huge winky thing)

From what I have seen so far though Dave, Kodjia just isn't that type of striker and the balanced of the side isn't gonna to be right with him playing up front on his own.

I'm not sure that how he looked in that position in Di Matteo's daft 4-1-5 formation is the best way of assessing how he might play there under the current with-a-real-actual-plan version.

I've got no problem getting a better striker and keeping him wide when that happens, but while the alternative is Gabby, get Kodjia in the centre and find spots for Grealish and Ayew for me.

Couldn't agree more Dave

I do think kodjia has his limitations as a 9. But I'm hoping the final 25 mins v Brighton will make Bruce realise just how much more quality ayew and jack have than gabby (and Gardner)

If Hernandez was available for a more realistic fee now, it might be worth looking at.  But TBH, I'd prefer us to look for a player who is good enough today and would potentially be good enough to grow with us in the top flight.

Someone like David Selke at Leipzig, who has something ridiculous like 20 goals in 30 games for the German U20s. From the bit I have seen of him, he looks like a cross between Carew and Crouch. I'd expect the bigger clubs in Germany and beyond to be in for him first, but he hasn't been a guaranteed starter for Leipzig in the top flight this year, so who knows.

We  could do a lot worse than Mitchell Weiser at Hertha Berlin for the right back spot too. Similar to Amavi, in that he can play full-back and wide midfield. Though probably not realistic for where we are at present.

A condition caused by spending too much time at the German (transfer) Market I believe

Fair point Dave, but I see him more as a wide forward or a centre forward in a front two.  He likes to drop deep and drift out wide, which is a bit of a problem if he is playing up on his own. On paper, an attacking unit of Grealish, Ayew, Adomah and Kodjia looks good, but my concern would be that there isn't a focal point there.  I think that is why we have seen Agbonlahor feature recently.
