Last dozen years, off the top of my head, I'd say Milner is the only purchase that instantly improved our midfield.

Which is a bit shit. And explains a lot.
Bloody hell, it's frightening when you put it like that.  Ashley Young & Petrov both started ok I think, but that doesn't change your point.

We could do with two in your face irritating athletes in midfield to play either side of jedinak, they don't have to be particuarlly good at passing or tackling, just have high stamina and be able to get up and down, our midfield is so static and slow right now.
you mean, like Lyden?!
Green provides adequate wing capability. That's why I think we need Ange and AN Other to join our MF cadre. Additionally, a CB to compensate for Elphick's inadequacies.
Oh, and a RB ...

When we first signed him he played on the right and didn't get that much good press as I remember.  Probably as Young was on the left creating a lot more for us.  There was a long term debate on here about him being better in the centre as I recall before we signed Downing and he did move inside.

So not sure even he classes as 'instantly improved'.

I haven't read the last few pages, any interesting links?

I hope so, because by my reckoning we're at least one midfielder, a right back, and probably another midfielder short of what we need.

I can see what you are doing here. Good craft.

Pat Murphy has confirmed our interest in Hourihane as well as Bree.

It would be nice to add Lansbury and Hourihane to the midfield and replace Hutton at the same time. Two players who can score goals and hit the box.

Barnsley are losing Winall as well.

I would like Lansbury. It was mentioned earlier that his 'twatness' would add an extra dimension to us. I agree.

It would be nice to see one over the line before the Wolves, but with Forest and their takeover not happening, Lansbury looks unlikely this week.

Steve Bruce at Old Trafford tonight.

Probably looking for a full back to play on the right and a couple of players to play not in defence or as a striker.

I wonder if we have other options if Lansbury falls through in view of the current circus at Forest? Hourihane was very good against us for Barnsley and good to see there is some interest. But like others have said it needs to be two midfielders (and if we can add Jenkinson as the right back all we'll and good).

IF......if, he is after Jenkinson....what's the hold-up there ? He's not been playing; is he injured ? or not interested, do you think?

There are rumours that Crystal Palace are interested. So you'd expect him to hold fire in case that happens rather than jumping on us too soon.

He's probably waiting for a Premier League move.
