with a better squad Kodjia should be getting no where near a Villa shirt
He’s a bang average championship level player and lower championship at that

Smith knows this that’s why his contract won’t renewed reportedly
to be fair in the starting line up the other night there were only maybe a couple of players that were premier league quality and even they have got a bit to prove yet

we are at the start of a squad rebuild capable of competing in this league the likes of Kodjia, Taylor, Elmo, Chester, Lansbury are not good enough going forward however good a servants they have been we will go down if we have to rely on them

All 5 of those players just presided over a 5-0 win in a League Cup quarter-final. Regardless of who the opposition was, they are clearly useful to have around.

But you're right. Let's just bleed squad players, who needs 'em.

He didn't suggest bleeding squad players. He said we were at the start of a squad rebuild and that going forward they would need to be replaced and improved on.

Except that it relies on the very bold assumption that we will definitely be playing Premier League football again next season, which is certainly not guaranteed at this point.

I would also argue that Chester, even given his injury woes last season, is still a useful player to have around next year. I certainly wouldn't be chucking him out in favour of another random squad centre-half, most likely to the tune of several million quid that could be better spent elsewhere.

I actually think it's pretty disrespectful to our club captain too, since he's been nothing but a loyal servant to the club and - when he was fully fit - was consistently one of the best players on the pitch.

I agree with the sentiment of this post.
Kodjia has never given me the impression that he could become the all-round player that is required in the high-press, pacy Premier League

I also think Chestier could do a job if fully fit.
But. The point that we have to rebuild with better players is valid, I think you can add a number of the first team squad to that list.
Beyond Jack SJM Mings Fred Heaton Engels (Hause Konsa Maybe ) The rest do not look Premiership quality based on performances so far.

Kodjia has never been the same since what was serious injury. Just watch some of the goals he scored for us and for his country. They were absolutely brilliant. We all suffer from recency bias to an extent and Kodjia hasn’t been the player he was for us, and part of it could be attitude and part is that he hasn’t had a run of games. But if it helps Wesley to play Kodjia and provide him with time to adapt and simply some competition we should be using him. He’s a very different option to Wesley.

The truth is if the right offer comes for him in January he’s gone. But until then, while our main striker isn’t scoring or is lacking some confidence, then use the assets at our disposal.

that’s my honest opinion of how good our second string of players are and your honest opinion is different
that’s fine by me everyone sees things the way they see them

If Kodjia is sold I assume at least two forwards will be signed given we'll be down to Wesley and Davis ( if he ever gets fit)?

So what does he need to do to get a game then? Change his name to Wesley by deed poll? Apply for Brazilian citizenship?

Perhaps JK is already an article that's pretty much complete . That is to say he's developed.
Smith prefers a player who still needs growing .
Jimmy can't be taught . He has it all already  established. International player who scores goals and ability it's a scandal why at times he hasn't be used .

Why would someone buy him when they can wait a few months and get him for nowt? Same with Chester and Davis.

Chester and Kodjia are NOT going to keep Villa in this division.  Neither are quite good enough.  I think we are in danger of making Kodjia a better player than he actually is.  Ten minutes here and there is all he's ever achieved, never a full and consistent 90 minutes.  Chester is not a Premier Division player, never really has been and that's why he's good for the Championship. Both of these players seem to get better when they are not playing.

If he was going to start any game over this period, I’d imagine Norwich at home would have been more suitable. Think today will be a bit of a scrap and I’m not sure you get much out of Kodjia in that case.

I’m hoping he’s moved in January. He showed today why he’s not going a starting slot. His pressing compared to Grealish who has played 4 games in quick succession was awful.

Wesley injury could mean we’re forced to stick with him.
