I was at all the games Paul. We were a poor side in a poor league who only secured safety in April.

Two good games put a nice gloss on an otherwise very disappointing season where we played some thoroughly turgid stuff.

Away at Blackpool is another example. That was in February if it helps.

Stop using opinion as fact, I went about 20 games that season myself (it's the last season where I was able to go regularly) and we were quite obviously a much better side after the new year, and we looked capable of scoring regularly after looking completely lost for most of the autumn.

I thought we were all on here giving our opinion?

You mentioned the two we'd lost as if I'd ignored everything, when I saw it all.

We started scoring more regularly because we signed the arch poacher Bent. Although we persisted with Young in behind for far too long, but eventually we got width back with him and Walker and Roland Rat.

I didn't see any particular revolution. That Wolves home game was as bad as anything Bruce or McLiesh or Lambert served up. The Liverpool away drubbing was perhaps as limp as McLiesh's White Hart Lane abomination. And far colder too.

Houllier's days get more misty eyed fondness than they deserve. That's my opinion, for clarity.

I've said it a million times but getting a semi retirement 60 + guy with health problems massively disappointed me considering we'd just finished sixth three times.

I have to say that's when I first started to think Lerner and the supporting cast weren't all they were cracked up to be when making kety football decisions so even before McLeish was headhunted.

I can understand MON leaving when he did was far from ideal but the guys we were targeting other than Houllier (Curbishley and McClaren) show how limited the football knowledge was.

I look at clubs since who haven't even finished sixth appoint likes of Pochettino, Pellegrini (West Ham) and Marco Silva and those are appointments that would excite me as a fan if we were finishing in that position now.

September 2010 was a key point for us. Make an exciting appointment and maybe Downing and Young might've stayed another year or two.

They both however saw the club was in decline and left and we never recovered from losing so much quality in 12 months.

I never thought we'd go down as we had too much quality but the Wolves game in March was desperate. They were in the bottom 3 at kick off and they outplayed us.

I didn't see much coming together being beaten at home to the Dingles in March or beaten away at the Stripey Filth under his underling in April.

Houllier's time has a wistful meaning for some. It was poor in reality, just nowhere near as poor as it's been since.

Why do two defeats mean we were crap yet two later wins get ignored as irrelevant? We finished ninth, which in the context of the time was poor but given the upheaval of the previous August and the injuries we suffered during the season was a lot more credible.

I look back wistfully to Houllier because in my mind it was the last time we seemed pledged to trying to achieve excellence on the pitch.  All our managerial appointments since then, to quote Remi Garde, have arrived at Villa Park in an ambulance.

Where did I say they didn't count? I said they put a gloss on a season that had been poor.

Securing safety away with a last minute goal at West Ham in April, is to me, poor with the same squad plus Bent that had finished 6th three years on the bounce.

Beating Arsenal and Liverpool in the last two games was a nice finish and that we finished 9th, despite being poor for so much of the season tell a you as much about the league as Houllier and his revolution.

Well, i for one had renewed hope once the final whistle went on the last day. We'd gone from bottom 6 to 9th within a couple of months and had a new striker in Darren Bent averaging more than a goal every 2 games. Obviously as the summer went on hope turned to despair as we appointed McLeish as manager, sold Young and Downing and replaced them with an injury prone loanee Jenas and a (to put it mildly) less than enthusiastic Charles Nzogbia who looked as though he must have had a gun pointed at his head when he signed his contract. We also offloaded a 40 year old Friedel and replaced him with a 35 year old Given on a 3 year deal and a massive salary. This really was the start of our problems.

To get back on topic I heard JK looked good yesterday I really hope we can hang on to him as losing him and Jack would be a disaster.

When we beat West Ham in mid April we were 9th. 8 points ahead of bottom place Real Dingleona and 7 above Blackpool who were 3rd bottom.

By the end of the month we were 13th and 6 points clear of Wigan with 3 games to go. It was a very poor league and we played our part in that.
