Strange how there does not seem to have been any official announcement of this from our end when he has been unveiled by his new club.

I assume the club is trying to avoid backlash on social media etc along the lines of "Can't believe we've sold our only available striker before bringing any in".

Villa does this too often....I've said before, get any new signings in place before you let any go - especially our only available striker! Utter madness. I wonder if the Samatta deal has hit a snag??

There's been an announcement on Twitter.

A bare bones announcement not even including the usual "the club thanks him for his efforts and extends its best wishes for the future".

Maybe that will come later, or it suggests something has gone on behind the scenes.

Poor show by the club in their official announcement of Kodjia going. The Aston Villa I know has more class than that.
Thanks Kodj and good luck!

Maybe he's been a total arsehole and deserves no thanks whatsoever.

Even McCormack got a thank you, however insincere.

True. Maybe Kodhia refused to play for us ever again, even with the fact we had no other strikers.

Possibly. He clearly wasn't ill.

Yeah, the illness lime seems well spun.

The kid Man United are after for £60m played in the Lisbon derby on the weekend, which would have been a huge risk, I wonder if Kodjia has refused to play?

Maybe he's spun some lies about his illness, maybe that's the club, who the f-ck knows because they're not exactly great at communicating with the supporters. What I do know is that whoever signed off on that announcement is not representing Aston Villa in a great light. There may be some underlying agenda but as a club we are bigger than that and we are certainly bigger than any individual player. We shouldn't be lowering ourselves to somebody elses levels. Whatever the guy may or may not have done, he contributed greatly to our 1st season in the championship, his goals ensuring we weren't in a relegation fight then. I wish he could have contributed more since, but whatever,  he deserves the thanks of the club who represents 1000's of supporters and not some jumped up arsehole in the pr department or any other individual within the club for that matter.

On what basis? There seems to be a lot of speculation passed off as fact in this thread. Doesn't seem that unlikely that someone could be ill in January. Half my office have been off in the last couple of months.

He could well have been ill.  He might also have had a planned January move pulled out from under him after Wesley's injury and thrown a tantrum to force it through.  Who knows?

What we do know is that for a while after he signed he was one of the best things about watching our side, and despite never getting back to that level after his injury, I'm grateful for his time here.
