One of my best mates is their director who negotiated the deal, just been out on a bike ride with him - he's delighted with the feedback on here!!

Ha ha!

Erm, best beer in the world, I could only have been more delighted if we were sponsored by Doom Bar.

I understand that Doom Bar is the UKs most sold session beer. Doesn't say much for the great British public.

I never tasted Brew XI, is it worse then Greene King IPA? If it is then i'm glad I started drinking in the early 90s.

Early 90's was probably the last time I had a pint of it. Sickly sweet taste, undeserving of the name 'bitter'

Many moons ago I was playing in a college football team , one of the players asked the PE teacher if they could drink the water from the bucket which had the magic sponge in.

"Only if you like Brew XI son. "

Whatever it is, it won't be well-kept so they may as well ruin Greene King IPA as anything decent. It'd be nice to have a local brewer on board but realistically, GK are the only independent brewery big enough to pay the sort of money wer're after. The only alternative would possibly be Marston's, and they're not going to alienate their yammish heartland by linking up wih da Villu.

I did hear from someone in the know there that they did offer the £40,000 requested but it did not offer exclusivity of the brand.  Marstons these days couldn't give two hoots for yam loyalty as they have it anyway.

Brew XI certainly wasn't the best, but I drank M & B Springfield back in the day and remember it as a good beer. There wasn't a lot of choice in the 80s, mind.

You can get Bathams at the Albion. Although I'd need a bucket of the stuff to be sufficiently pissed to want to watch them.

Given the way we sank last season the obvious choice for a sponsor would have been "Titanic Brewery" from Burslem (Stoke on Trent) since their beers do slip down a treat.

The Titanic Plum Porter is a far more romantically nourishing beer than the Greene King IPA, the latter really is a very uninspiring beer (rather like last years performances).
