The whole guard of honour thing is a load of nu football type shite.

It's actually an old custom that died out and has been revived lately.

I used to have a poster on my bedroom wall of Coventry doing it for Villa with Dennis Mortimer leading us out but I can't remember which success they were acknowledging?

It must have been the League Cup in 1977. We won it on 13th April and our next game was at Coventry on the 16th. We won, 3-2 (Cowans, Deehan, Little).

I'd have thought that Nicholl, rather than Mortimer, lead us out though, as he was captain at the time.

We didn't play Coventry immediately after any of our league or cup wins when Mortimer was captain.

Thanks CD . That makes a lot of sense.  Funny how time skews your memory.

There is no reason I can think of that would result in my wanting Utd to win a game of football. All this bollocks about doing it for Manchester is precisely that utter bollocks. The people directly impacted won't be bothered about a game of football.

Their name has been on the cup since they jammed their way past Anderlecht and then Celta. Pogbas had a shite season, that's exactly the type of goal you'd expect him to get.

It won't be over yet. Ajax have to come out now and have lots of flair, but it also makes them vulnerable on the counter. This could be anything.

I can see Mkhitaryan getting sent off simply because he can't tackle but 3 obvious fouls on the full back before he got booked.

The commentator after their second "They can almost see the champions league now" FFS is this not about winning a cup?

For all the hype in the build up, Ajax have looked very ordinary tonight.  Manchester United haven't been much better either to be honest, look devoid of any real quality.
