Don't get the I hope the English team lose.   I'd even get behind the Blues in a European final.
I think the only time I've ever watched a game wanting Man Utd to win was against Benfica in 68 - but that was before I'd ever met any ManU fans!
Come on Ajax - Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels did more for the beautiful game than any English hoof merchant ever did.

Only times I can remember wanting Man Utd to win were any CL games against Chelsea and the Brighton FA cup final as it would mean we were in UEFA Cup.

Fuck that. I hope Man U get murdered.

.....Is the correct answer for me too. Another year out of the champions league for them and an entertaining post defeat interview with moaninho will do nicely.

I remember having to want Chelsea to win the Cup Winners Cup for the same reason, after our ridiculous run under Gregory.

If you are referring to players i agree. But teams used to be on the receiving end - we had one at Coventry 3 days after beating Everton in the 1977 league cup final (in front of about 12-15k Villa fans i may add)

The whole guard of honour thing is a load of nu football type shite.

It's actually an old custom that died out and has been revived lately.

I used to have a poster on my bedroom wall of Coventry doing it for Villa with Dennis Mortimer leading us out but I can't remember which success they were acknowledging?

I feel a bit uncomfortable about the build up to tonights game, it's as if anything other than a win for Man U would somehow be wrong. If the game is to go ahead it must be played the right way and be competative. As hard as it will be for the Man U players it will be difficult for the Ajax side as well.

Hopefully it won't be too mawkish and has an air of dignity and defiance whatever the result.

I don't actually see why it should be that hard for the Man Ure players. In the main they are not English and none of them live in Manchester. I can fully buy comments of anguish from Phil Neville. Not so from, I don't know, Juan Mata.

And I still hope they lose 87-0, regardless of events this week.

I'm sure the guard of honour thing has been done before, but not the shite we see today. EBJT organising his own, how much of a wanker do you have to be tell your teammates and manager that you want a guard of honour. It's like organising your own surprise party. Here's an idea you racist thug, if they didn't organise it themselves they probably think you're as big a ****** as the rest of us do.

Why on earth would you want to come off in the 20th minute of your last game?
(I hated Drogba's nonsense a few years ago too.)

The only guard of honor for a player I can remember was when Ian Rush left Liverpool.

It must have been the League Cup in 1977. We won it on 13th April and our next game was at Coventry on the 16th. We won, 3-2 (Cowans, Deehan, Little).

I'd have thought that Nicholl, rather than Mortimer, led us out though, as he was captain at the time.

We didn't play Coventry immediately after any of our league or cup wins when Mortimer was captain.
