Neither should be anywhere near the team. We should have had a centre-half ready to sign on January 1st.

If Elphick is the answer while Tuanzebe is out then we may as well give up on promotion for this season.

He's not Franco Baresi, but a centre half is needed asap and he'll do just fine.

Elphick's a solid championship defender, not good enough to play in the premier league because he makes too many mistakes but as 3rd choice for a team challenging for the play offs he's fine and should never have been pushed out.

We need a good centre-half, not just someone who occasionally stands in that vague position. He is abysmal. The worst defender I've ever seen at Villa.

Can't believe that four months away seems to have resulted in a collective amnesia. Every time he plays for Villa, we are effectively starting a goal down.

He's been consistently awful in a Villa shirt. Dreadful. The only way I can look at it is right now we're one injury away from Hutton or an untried kid being a first choice there.

I can just about tolerate the idea of him as a last resort cover, or to play in the Swansea Cup game.

If Smith has any thoughts that we don't need to sign a proper centre-half by the end of the month then it is suicide for our promotion hopes.

I doubt anyone sees Elphick as the ideal solution, he is however a solution to us playing Bree and Hutton as CB if anything happened to Chester. And as erratic, and at times utter gash, as he's been at times, to suggest he's worse than the likes of Luna, Sisko, Lescott and Richards to name just a few are the words of a U2 lover!!!!

None of them cost us, in goals, as consistently as Elphick has. They were all, pretty much, found out and dropped fairly quickly. Elphick played for virtually a whole season and more despite being worse than a night in front of the telly at Damo's house.

Also, he doesn't need to be the only alternative. We have, quite rightly, identified a weakness at goalkeeper and arranged for a replacement to come in from January 1st. We should have the same deal in place for an excellent central defender.

I should imagine Elphick would rather stay at Hull than come back to B6 and get slated every game

He needs to start games when he comes back.  Would rather have him than Bree.  Elphick is an organiser and leader even if it hasn't worked out for him at Villa.
