Do you sell one of the better players (at a loss) and then use that to pay the poorer player on high wages or in other words, pour money down the drain or do use the equivalent money to get rid of the poorer player and keep the better player who might give you the chance of being promoted.
Football is not like business in general where you cut costs to survive until, say, a recession ends. With football you still have to compete or you will sink further.
