The team is a mirror image of the owner, insipid, timid, spineless, confused, fearful, characterless, disagreeable and ultimately unfit for purpose.

I watched the game with my Dad.

He's 79, I'm 50.

He first took me in 1971. He's been going since the 50s. He thinks this is the worst Villa side he's ever seen. I think he's right, although I did see the three Steves' (Simms, Foster and Hodge) play for us.

At the end of this game he looked at me, and, with a real tear in his eye, said 'Son, I'm so sorry you're a Villa fan, this is terrible and it's all my fault'.

I wouldn't change a thing. I was there at Highbury in '81, on the pitch and euphoric. I have seen us win trophies, score great goals and be crowned champions of Europe. Villa, on balance, has given more pleasure than pain in my life. (The pain is catching up I have to confess, Wembley last May was a new low, or so I thought).

We'll come again. Football comes in cycles. It may not be for a few years, but we'll be back.

Let's look out for visionary like Graham Taylor. Let's find a dynamo like David Platt. Let's take in another cast-off like Paul McGrath. Let's prudently invest in another goal machine like Benteke. Let's find another leader like Olof Mellberg. They're out there somewhere.

I know it feels terrible, but who reading this would really trade loyalties? Who's swap places with a Leeds fan, an Arsenal fan, even a ManUre fan? No, thought not.

Up the Villa, the best club in the world.

As a footnote, I have two sons, 19 and 17. Both hate football despite my best efforts. Lucky lads.

Great post VaH

Some posts on here have said that while they expected the Villa to lose (eg 0-2), they didn't expect the team to surrender 0-6 particularly after recent games where we've shown more resilience.
Cynics might suggest the players performed so badly because a warm weather break had been cancelled and they were on a SULK! Their last opportunity for a jolly ahead of going their own ways in the close season.Clearly they don't deserve one yet the psyche of Villa's premier league players will feel hard done by when they can see the likes of Stoke flying off to Dubai. Let's be clear despite yesterday's result L'pool are not a great team unless they are made to look one by players throwing a tantrum. Just a thought!!!

Look what he did to Cleveland Browns!
[/quote]

He did manage to sell the Browns............eventually.

The price to buy The Villa will plummet in The Championship.

His family may convince him to sell ?

He will be lucky to get back however much it cost him to buy the Club.

I though Gil was part of the problem yesterday.
He just doesn't do enough at this level to make a difference. Same for Westwood, Bacuna, Veretout, Gana, Bunn, Gestede.

The defence are probably good enough but make stupid mistakes time and again.  With Lescott and Richards having spats with the fans, Okore questioning the clubs commitment, and now the stupid car tweet from Lescott, it could point to something not right behind the scenes.
Maybe it was just a perfect storm and a 6-0 defeat was a one off, but it looked like the players had given up. That coupled with Garde bringing in unknown teenagers, it all seems like we have serious issues right now, and I think we haven't even hit rock bottom yet.

gil is a lightweight pussy who wouldnt be out of place in an under 11's girls team.

That response is so irritating in so many ways.

Gil is probably really good if you bring him on as a sub when you are 3-0 up (if anyone can remember what that means) and he can show you what he can do with no pressure, but in the heat of battle I don't think he cuts it.

If he had a bit of pace he'd be dangerous but as it is he's so slow he just gets caught and brushed aside. Just a bit shit really.

Gil and Veretout are hugely frustrating players.

You can put up with a Gavin McCann or NRC as they have plenty of endeavour to mask their pretty substantial limitations.

A player like Westwood is just an out-and-out rotter. It's not intentional on his part, he's just playing in a league at least one step up from his playing ability.

But with Veretout and Gil, they look like they could be decent at this level. They just hold onto the ball far too long.

They both have the touch and awareness to play little give and gos to open teams up, but they rarely seem to it. Particularly in areas that matter.   Probably a lack of confidence in their teammates that they'll get the ball back.

Righteous brother. We could lose 10-0 every week in the 4th division and we'd still be the greatest club on earth.

Nah. We'd have dropped to the 4th and then losing 10-0against the likes of Morecambe. By then I think Lerner would seriously consider selling up. Plus Sinclair, Gil, and Lescott would prove we were big in our own minds.

My first game was in 1959 and over the years it does seem to have been more downs than ups.  But the last few years have been a real bummer and I don't remember ever feeling so bad than yesterday.

It is so so sad what has happened to this great club, but we will come good again.
