Another draw predictably in these wintry conditions. One observation, Westwood should be dropped after a poor start to the season. Bring in Laurie Evans or Ateeq Javid. Westwood is a weakness as an opening bat.

Porterfield is another option. Westy has lost his mojo for sho.

Another win for Essex. Great start to the season, hopefully they can get promoted this season.

Good, balanced report by George Dobell. He's one of my favourite writers and his coverage of the domestic game is excellent:

Unfortunately he never had his mojo, he averages 32 in First Class cricket, pathetic for an opening bat. One that needs replacing if we want to have a shot at winning the Championship again.

I'd love to see Laurie Evans get a go in the Championship. Can't believe someone with his talent couldn't adapt to the longer game if given a good run.

Another one I'm not convinced on myself. However think he will get his chance in the middle order soon, especially as the kid Hain is struggling for any kind of early season form.

Second season syndrome is going on a bit longer for Hain than one would hope.

I am another one  not totally convinced about Laurie Evans .Not much to choose between him and Ateeq Javid .Both have had chances and never really taken them .

Yorkshire bowlers are bowling some rubbish at Trent Bridge. Missing Sidebottom who keeps things toght as well as a wicket taker.

Notts 76/0 from 15 overs.

I stopped watching at 76/0, now 238/8. I'm obviously a jinx so won't watch anymore.

The wife's not been well these last few months and, in our 44th year of marriage, she suddenly developed an interest in cricket. We watched the world T20 together which she loved and is now addicted to the IPL, which I cordially dislike (still struggle to work out what Super/Royal gold-blinged team is which).

Today I insisted on watching the County game, which was like a breath of really fresh, calm, air. I tried to explain the differences and the added subtlety (and the four-dayness) but to no avail.

This remains a work in progress...

:)

Stick at it Nick! My partner developed an interest in cricket when she was pregnant with our first child, she couldn't sleep one night and ended up watching a documentary on Brian Lara at some ridiculous hour and then asked me to take her to a cricket match, sadly she's strictly one day though.

Hope your good lady is on the mend.

The cream teas served in the members areas at most grounds are a good ruse in this respect, I have found.

Worcestershire CCC make no bones about it, either:

Rest assured tea and cakes are still served in the Ladies pavilion in the same way as the view of the Cathedral will always be associated with New Road.

I've offered her the incentive of taking her to the Neville Ground to watch Kent get ther annual thrashing/trial-by-water in Tunbridge Wells' cricket/deluge week if she doesn't get better soon.

Typical. I persuade her to watch the county game again because she likes Joe Root (though becoming increasingly fed up with that wretched dachshund), and he's gone first ball to Ball, bowling well.
