James Taylor forced to retire

I saw the headline and thought, right that must be some lesser James Taylor. But no. Devastating.

That really is shocking news. I know that in the grand scheme of things it's not very important but to see a professional sportsman being forced to retire because of a health condition whilst we have a bunch of wasters wearing the Villa shirt this season, something ain't right.

Ironically I thought he was a player who played with a lot of courage and heart. Hope that they sort it out for him and that whatever path he takes, he's successful.

Nice ton for Bell to start the season. Won't be long before we lose him to England if he keeps this up!

Well done Ian Bell!  104 not out......great 1st knock of the season. The guy is class. A chance of a win tomorrow if we can skittle them out early. Weather has intervened - lost a whole day yesterday. C'mon you Bears!!

360 all out so a lead of 158. Bell scored 174.

It should be a difficult afternoon for Hampshire.

With Taylor's awful diagnosis do you think that Ian Bell might be back in the Test reckoning for the summer?
I hope not because at 34 it's short termism for England and anyway I want him leading Da Bears to 4 day glory this season.

I just posted something similar on the International Cricket thread. I like Bell and he will score heavily against county attacks. They should take a longer term view and select Ballance ahead of Bell though.

I',m not convinced by Ballance just yet (I want to hear him admit that he has a technical problem and that he's addressing it, his refusal to do that was worrying) but I agree that they should move on from Bell, I don't know who the right person is though.
