The ECB have just announced that Graham Gooch has become 'Batting Consultant' with Warwickshire CCC.

Don't think its a full time role he will just have one to one sessions with Bears batsmen throughout the summer,
offering advice. He has already had some one to one sessions with some of the top order and this is set to continue.

Reading between the lines I'd say that his appointment is more about Sam Hain's development into an England player than working with our top order.

Interesting article about how a County Championship pitch is prepared at Edgbaston and New Road.

The Bears have signed Kiwi wicketkeeper/batsman Luke Ronchi for this years T20.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/newzealand/content/player/7502.html

I don't think his stats are all that, especially after McCullum last year so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

I would have preferred to see a more established player signed, one of the West Indies T20 squad perhaps. Other counties are signing high profile players, why aren't we?

It's rare that we do. McCullum was an excellent exception. Hopefully this guy will prove his worth but I'd have liked a bigger name too.

I think it's good that Ronchi has signed for all 14 games where as McCullum only signed for 7 last year. I can see Sam Hain featuring this summer and having Ian Bell available is a big plus.

I think we could could/should be close to be winning quite a lot this season.

Yeah, should be there or thereabouts in all comps

I disagree, but hope to be proved wrong.

I think we peaked when when we won the championship and have coasted since.

In particular, our much vaunted seam attack is less than the sum of its parts. Barker is the only one that can swing the ball in favourable conditions. Woakes used to, before he speeded up. Wright and Jones are decent bowlers, but I would bet good money that they will spend most of the season injured.

Rikki Clarke, last season's player of the year for both fans and players sums us up. Fantastic potential never achieved and playing for their retirement fund.

Three early wickets for Barker, good start to the season for the Bears.

Hants 50-4.

I had my reservations about this season but the today's line up is hugely formidable in The County Championship:

Chopra
Westwood
Bell
Trott
Hain
Ambrose
Clarke
Woakes
Barker
Patel
Rankin

Wickets and runs galore there.

I don't think we won the tossed we just invoked this new rule where the visiting team can decide what they want to do
