Interesting discussion on 5 Live last night sums up the shambles at our club.
58 minutes in.
Sigh.

Discussed on Tom Fox meets supporters thread. 'Muppet' reference good though!

Find it hard to say this but Joey Barton made some pretty astute observations about AVFC...hard to take coming from him but bluntly honest...then lapsed into "muppetmuppetmupppet" which somewhat devalued his earlier points.

I think he's right about us being down for some time while people like Fox, Riley and Almstadt remain at the club.

I know this much, we'll come back, might not be straight away but it won't last forever.

Joey Barton, however, will always be a first rate, low life cnut. Nothing will ever change that.

Barton is Collymore-esque.  There's so much about him personally that you want to dislike, but he comes across as an articulate man who is able to argue his point in a reasoned and measured manner - at least in comparison with the majority of pundits.

As for the programme itself, whilst there was a slight sneer in the tone of some of the contributors, I'm pleased that at long last the finger of blame for our decline and impending fall is starting to be pointed on a national forum.

That was hard listening as a lot of slagging off of the situation. Not sure Nigel Pearson would be the right candidate full stop - the bloke seems to be a loon and a bully. Perhaps thats what you need to keep up.... no idea.

The difference is which they all glossed over was the fact that the team has been in decline - yes we spent 50 million but that was to replace most of the squad. We had no players so we had to get as many as possible for the money we had.

What they did get right is that lerner isn't around and the people at the top haven't a scooby.

Barton tried to say Newcastle was in a different place? I don't think so, they had a gash squad, no manager and a loony owner also. I'm not sure thats very different to us...

One of the most annoying thing in our current plight is that whenever they discuss Villa on either 5Live or TS it always starts with a chuckle and laughter and then some patronising hollow comments follow and they quickly move on to let's discuss colour of the grass at Old Trafford or how tea is served from tea pots at eastlands. Wankers all of them!

Somebody told me they heard a discussion on us Sunday afternoon on 5Live too. Did anybody hear it?

Sad to say but Newcastles squad was better than our current one.
I listened to the radio 5 show and thought it was all fair comment.

Tom fox sounded like an absolute cluess pillock, the first time I'd heard him speak and an absolute waste of space. What worried me was the suggestion that the men currently promoted above their station would be making managerial appointments to ensure they remained in place, basically ruling out the type of root and branch change we need.

Also Pat Mutphy gets slagged off on here but from what I can gather it's because he has been scathing about Lerner, can't say he was wrong on this evidence.

Do yourself a big favour and don't ever go searching for anything Fox said at the time they paraded Delph around at the time the new contract was signed. Some of the things Fox said, despite knowing about the pathetic £8m release fee, are downright contemptible.
