Remember when the ref blew for half time me and my mates on the Holte just stood there looking at each other thinking "did that really just happen"

From memory, we played Newcastle at home on Sat 18th December; we scraped a 2-1 win 2 John Deehan goals I think. Players were a bit knackered after the 5-1 midweek exploits. Oh for days like that again......

The Newcastle game was played with snow and ice still on the Witton End which if I am not mistaken was the last time that we had  the Witton End as we knew  it.  Newcastle brought an incredible support.  I am sure at the time they were 4th in the table, don't know how that has stuck in my mind.

I was on the Witton End too and it was hard to see the Holte End goal clearly through the snow - a really cold day. I was 14 and at one point about 4 Newcastle fans of my own age surrounded me and asked to "swap" scarves. I didn't but after the game my dad told me he had kept an eye on me from 4-5 steps behind and was glad I had stood up for myself.

I may have dreamt this - but shortly after Ray Kennedy made it 4-1, I seem to remember us getting our 5th, and the crowd was shocked into an almost amazed silence.

Unforgettable night - I've said that many times - I seem to remember a few weeks before that they'd scored 3 fairly late goals to beat us up at their place and Barry Davies saying something like this Villa team was going to be "the team to dethrone Liverpool in the near future".

I remember it to the same sort of silence before the anderlecht semi at vp when everyone realised that this was the biggest game in our history until 26-05-82

I remember that game as one of, if not the best game I've ever seen a Villa team play.  I was standing on the witton end that night due to a good scouse mate not wanting to go on the holte, lucky me.  I remember it was like dream this was a top Liverpool side absolutely brilliant, a little cameo I remember was A Liverpool fan screaming out Comon youve got them on the run, when they pulled it back to 4:1, the majority of their fans just looked stunned.
