I think we'll keep hold of our better players, as I don't think the wages back in France compete with what we pay, even with a 30% deduction for relegation. Given that they're on 4 and 5 year deals, selling them would create quite a lot of funds in any event to replace them.

Most of the better players will have get out 'relegation clauses' in their contracts, with probably a maximum fee of what Villa paid for them so it is hardly going to create 'a lot of funds'!
You then have the added problem of convincing 'better' players to join a championship club on a shoestring budget!

Quote from Garde

‘It was also a financial problem, yes. But it is not my job to explain that to you again. Probably the club realised mistakes has been made in the past, probably they didn’t want to do it again.
‘As a new manager I would have expected new faces to support my change. Not only for me but the club, team, squad to be strengthen very good decision. We missed these two targets. It’s unfortunate.’
Garde added: ‘It took me a few weeks to have an assessment and I made a recommendation to the board to try to sign players to the team, we need that. ‘Some games we are close to compete, then we need a little bit of quality. I cannot do more. I tried to sign them, I worked on very hard, but for different reasons we couldn’t.’

This is worrying. He sounds like a man at the end of his tether. Reading between the lines he's not been backed, he may walk come the end of the season. We're in far deeper shit than I'd considered...

Brilliant so now we're driving Garde out the door as well. I truly do not see any light at the end of the tunnel, Garde was it but now he's clearly pissed off, our board is completely fucking hopeless.

I am hearing that Newcarrssul have now bid £25m for Berahino - surely that cannot be right, it is utter madness.

He's a good player who could score the goals to keep them up. Speculate to accumulate and all that.

Even if you could persuade him to come, you'd really spend £25M on that waster?

We've got enough of his shit attitude with the likes of Richards and Gabby, without spending that amount on him.

Thank god I'm not you're bank manager, I bet he shits bricks every time the January sales come around.

For the record, as far as I can see he's a 1 in  4 striker.  Not what we need, but I guess it would at least be a Proper Premier League Fee with Proper Premier League Wages.

His logic beggars belief. The reason we are in the shit is due to overspend and lack of ROI of such spending and subsequent poor decision making.

And when he turns into at best a 1 in 6 striker and his value reduces by 40% when we are relegated and puts us in an even worse financial position then what?

Like Gideon's reinflation of the housing market which was the main cause/contributory factor to the early 90's recession and in 2008. Let's do it again and hope for a better result.

Even though I'm telling everyone its over and we're going down, deep down there was hope that we would snag a top up and coming striker from Europe or some decent surplus from other premier league sides.

The total lack of activity and now Remi's trip to negative town really does feel like the end of the road for us. I couldn't give a toss if other people think we're deluded, I expect better from my club than apathetic surrender to the championship however unlikely survival seems.

Well at least the club have finally succeeded in making the 'Senderos/Cole/Richardson' transfer-window seem like a successful one.

Possibly even worse than the Dawkins January

In a sea of absolute horse manure - this made me laugh.  Like a Watergate type motion picture 'The Dawkins January.'

So the board have fucked him over basically

or possibly some of the requests being made by players simply made no sense financially especially given where it appears we are going. At the end of the day what he's saying about the board making financial decisions is the same at every club. I honestly believe we were closer to safety we'd be taking more risks, but our position has changed the environment in which we are operating. He also said he spoke to Doumbia for a long time but in the end he went somewhere else, so it's not like he wasn't being supported on certain deals. He also cited disappointed at Kalinic falling through. None of this makes for good reading but being where we are has contributed to the environment changing, and either players choosing other clubs or the club being presented with figures that would might put us in a bad position should relegation take place.

Who will pay good money for Veretout, Gestede, Gueye or Traore? No one.
