Ads, appreciate what you are saying, but again pre- planning and god forbid we do what other clubs do and tap players up, should have identified and agreed in theory the logistics of the move, which should also have included any work permit issues, also have more than one suitable target.

You state that players have turned us down, the only one who has turned us down and that it is stated we have talked to is the twat that's gone to Newcastle, Debauchy we have decided not to pay the loan fee, understandable as it is only for 5 months , 13 games.
I also appreciate your view but do not agree with it, that the players in the squad now will piss the league next year. If I was a player at Villa now and I am talking about the Veretout, Ayew and the other only average players we signed this summer and I had an relegation, escape clause in my contract, maybe just maybe I would be willing to stay and take a drop if I truly believed the club was showing at least the foundations of ambition and looking to turn around a soul destroying season of defeat after defeat, as even the manager has stated has had a major effect on the players confidence, prior to playing Tamworth and Bromsgrove in freindlies in June

As stated easy for me to say I am thousands of miles away, but when ever I have got home I always try to get to a game, if I was home on Saturday they could shove it.

Oh and Walsall its not Blues at all, this is 5 years of constant under investment, bad management and now showing nothing but disrespect for the supporters and the great club which is ours, by throwing in the towel by the 1st February, if they cant give a fuck why should the support.

I am hearing that Newcarrssul have now bid £25m for Berahino - surely that cannot be right, it is utter madness.

He's a good player who could score the goals to keep them up. Speculate to accumulate and all that.

The other thing that makes me slightly cynical to this idea that had we been closer to safety we'd have got the players in is that we haven't over the past few years have we? We've just about survived over the last 3 or 4 years and I can't remember any signings of note in January. If we were in 17th now I'd be surprised if we'd have spent more than £5 million and it's that lack of ambition that is a major factor in where we are today.

I think the situation is different this time around in the sense that one gets the impression that there's more money available this time around. Now, obviously you can't claim that with any real certainty, but on each occasion in January 2013, 2014 and 2015, we were coming off summer windows where we'd spent very little. This time around, we'd earned ourselves a pile in the summer through sales, and there's the looming prospect of the new TV deal. On that basis, it's far more believable to think that money was available and they would've been willing to spend it on calculated gambles in order to secure the place at the table for next season's jackpot.

It does show how much clubs seem to know how much they will potentially lose next year though if they go.....but don't worry we don't fear relegation according to Fox Hollies.

Even if you could persuade him to come, you'd really spend £25M on that waster?

We've got enough of his shit attitude with the likes of Richards and Gabby, without spending that amount on him.

Thank god I'm not you're bank manager, I bet he shits bricks every time the January sales come around.

For the record, as far as I can see he's a 1 in  4 striker.  Not what we need, but I guess it would at least be a Proper Premier League Fee with Proper Premier League Wages.

Passit, the net spend over the summer was minimal, yes there were alot of players brought in, but as with other windows quantity over quality, not replacing like with like

The thing is, Newcastle are going to have to make a crazy wage offer to Berahino, otherwise why would he move? He wants Champions League football, not a high likelihood of Championship football.

Garde just on Sky - Villa struggling to sign players, he has identified targets but ht eclub "for ine reason or another" cannot fland them. Confirmed that Richards and Lescott will not be allowed to leave this season.

Isn't Berahino much closer to being a 1 in 2 striker when he starts?

General sense from the press conference with Garde this am seems to be that he is very frustrated and has recommended signings to the board.

I think we'll keep hold of our better players, as I don't think the wages back in France compete with what we pay, even with a 30% deduction for relegation. Given that they're on 4 and 5 year deals, selling them would create quite a lot of funds in any event to replace them.

Of the players we actually spent decent money on; Amavi upgrade on anyone at left back, Veretout - upgrade on Westwood, Ayew - upgrade on Weimann; Gueye - mostly disappointing replacement for Delph; Gestede totally inadequate replacement for Benteke.

It's the Gestede signing that's killed us. Anyone half decent that could have managed a 1 in 3 - 1 in 4 strike rate whilst actually being able to move and hold the ball up would have totally transformed the side as we'd have been 1.) less predictable, 2.) more of a goal threat, 3.) better at ball retention in the final 3rd; all of which would have taken some of the pressure of the back 6.

Why the f**k do so many people care about net spend, it's a meaningless value to base everything around but some on here act as it's the only possible thing that could make us a decent team.  We spent a lot of money in the summer, where it came from is completely irrelevant other than it created 2 extra gaps to fill.  The issue, yet again, was that we had a manager who, instead of identifying a playstyle and formation and getting 11 players to work in that just bought players he liked the look of and then tried to make a team out of them.  Over the last 6-7 years we've spent enough money to be safely top half, we've just spent it really badly on players that either don't fit at all or only worked for 1 manager and were gubbins once he left.

What Garde needed to do this window was find the right players for the club, we know that he identified at least 2, 1 agreed to join but couldn't get a work permit and the other decided to go elsewhere.  If he has others that he thinks can come in and fit what he needs then I hope he goes after them today but I really hope he doesn't abandon that principle and buy anyone just to say he's made a signing, that helps no one.

Quote from Garde

‘It was also a financial problem, yes. But it is not my job to explain that to you again. Probably the club realised mistakes has been made in the past, probably they didn’t want to do it again.
‘As a new manager I would have expected new faces to support my change. Not only for me but the club, team, squad to be strengthen very good decision. We missed these two targets. It’s unfortunate.’
Garde added: ‘It took me a few weeks to have an assessment and I made a recommendation to the board to try to sign players to the team, we need that. ‘Some games we are close to compete, then we need a little bit of quality. I cannot do more. I tried to sign them, I worked on very hard, but for different reasons we couldn’t.’
