Second division of a poor league, has only played 250 minutes this season, costs bugger all. Sounds believable.

The board have started to prepare for next seasons relegation.

Indeed. It's no coincidence that pretty much any player who could be considered a success in their time at Villa in the last few years has been in the £5 million plus bracket. I may have forgotten someone, but I can't think of any who have come in for less than that and actually been a success.

Possibly Westwood? I dont know about "success" but we probably have got decent value for money out of him.

Well he's played over 100 league games for us if that's what you mean. Absolutely dreadful player who is out of his depth in the Premier League though.

Gary Gardener should have been given a chance ahead of him when he was fit, not loaned out again.

I think Gardener has been loaned out to get him up to speed for next year, rather than being a bit part player here for the rest of the season.

Wonder how many decent corners Westwood has put in in those 100+ games?

In my view though he shouldn't have been a bit part player. He can do no worse than Westwood, in my opinion you could drop him down a division and he'd still be anonymous, where as Gardener was viewed as one of Forests best players last season.

I do not disagree with you but I think the future will be better by loaning him out.  I think he could easily replace Westwood next season.

Premier League spending on transfers in a single season could break the £1bn mark for the first time.

The 2014-15 campaign saw a record £965m spent, but this has already been surpassed this season and it is likely the final figure will be in excess of £1bn by Monday's 23:00 GMT deadline.

With purchases and sales, we have been involved with around 10% of that amount.

According to twitter we're signing a young French player called Samy Kehli for 2m Euros tomorrow...

Second division of a poor league, has only played 250 minutes this season, costs bugger all. Sounds believable.

Riyad Mahrez from Leicester was from the second division of the French league, cost bugger all and had only scored 6 goals in 3 years.

It doesn't necessarily mean that he's shit. Probably, I'll grant you, but not definitely.

To balance it out, Yacouba Sylla was bought from the French 2nd Division.

And helped keep us up. At the end of his first season he looked a bargain.

Fair point Dave, he was good for the final few months of that season.  Never quite worked out what happened to him after that though.

Him and pretty much the entire team.

Well, both, if possible. Before the window closes. And if they're solvent.
And if they like The Villa, of course!
