Another in the "thats weird" category. He hit a really good run of form for us before his injury then just disappeared off the map. Hopefully there is nothing serious in his personal life that caused this.

I think we may get this Croatian goalkeeper and that will be it. Don't think Reg Hollis will sanction anything else.

I'll be honest with you I'm thoroughly depressed and sick of things now.

Are we honestly at the stage of our existence where literally no player is willing to come to us we are that toxic?

I went through 1986-87 and that was bad enough but this is on a different level.  The meek acceptance of our situation from top down (I exclude the manager from this) is bordering on negligence.

I cannot think of anything literally anything that makes me excited to be a Villa fan at the minute.

We are probably down anyway but hey lets just make sure we do it in style.

I think this board has already waived the white flag hence the introduction of Hollis who looks as if he's been bought in to carry on his accountcy role albeit with the title of Chairman.

Leicester had 19 points with ten games to go last year. We had 22 points last year with 11 games remaining. The board are crazy to have surrendered so early. Garde has got 7 results since had came in. At least one of those draws would have been a win if we had a finisher. The margins are so tight, two wins and we would have some momentum and more belief.

I am so disappointed, but not surprised, by what's going on.  I thought our premier league status was precious to us. We are not down yet.

It's becoming ever-clearer to me that Lerner has essentially accepted the club's fate now & decided against spending any more money on the squad. His prior sporting 'gambles' have clearly been disastrous to his personal finances & credibility, so perhaps the inevitable forthcoming heavy devaluation of a relegated Aston Villa is more acceptable to him if he doesn't involve himself in further player investment? Like you, IV, I'll be really disappointed to find the towel has been chucked now, but I can't say it'll come as any surprise. You never know, Gestede  might wake up Saturday morning & suddenly become a carbon copy of Lois Suárez...   :o

Hopefully our dullard custodian has completely given up the ghost and will sell us on to anyone who will pony up close to what he's looking for for the club. I'm not overly concerned about who buys us, if they're spending tens of millions to acquire us, they will be more capable than the bonehead who has consistently fucked up over the course of a decade. You have to be very special (needs) indeed, to get every major decision wrong over the course of almost a decade. I'll take anyone over the twat that currently owns us. If you've given up Lerner, just fuck off before your twattish ownership does irreparable damage.

This is all rather depressing. I know our situation, but it's annoying seeing other clubs making a genuine go of trying to stay up and we really don't seem to be.

Players will come, especially on short term contracts, if the wages are attractive enough.

I realise the window hasn't closed yet, but it really is pretty defeatist. For the small amounts of progress that we have made recently, it must be dispiriting to all involved that as a club we don't seem to be giving ourselves the best chance of avoiding relegation.

I doubt it. Bottom of the league clubs often sign players (usually always because they want to fight). So could we. Plenty of players could come even if it was on the assumption we will be in the Championship.

We have not signed anyone because we have not taken the window seriously and/or Lerner has refused funds. Yes thats rage inducing but the alternative of Lerner wants to spend tens of millions but no decent player on earth is willing to take his money is pretty implausible in my mind. Also Fox & Hollis have pretty much said as much, they don't want to spend the money.

And yes there is just about zero to be excited about or even optimistic about right now. The blame is firmly with Fox, Lerner & Hollis.

Leicester looked sunk last season, had questionmarks over Boxhead Pearson even carrying on with the job (wasn't he sacked at one point last Jan?) and could still sign a £10 million forward, Robert Huth and Schwarzer on loan.

Fulham could still attract players with recent Champions League pedigree two seasons ago when they faced the drop. And the likes of Sunderland and QPR have done significant business during previous January transfer windows.

So it's not that we can't, it's that Lerner and co won't.

Not that I'm advocating they take a QPR or Fulham approach, but a better forward than Kozak or Gestede must surely be available somewhere in the world, even for a moderate transfer fee.

He's only been here 5 minutes!

He should have come in with a single focus. Make sure we get this transfer window right. Thats the only thing that matters.

Instead he has talked a lot of forgettable corp speak.

He can stand in the naughty corner with the rest of em :)

I think we all guessed Senderos was going to be a bit shit.

Thing is though, he wasn't. He did okay in the few matches he played. Strange that he wasn't ever even in a squad again after his injury or even given a runout in the reserves like Kozak was.

Agreed - he was not shit - jesus - he made Baker look PL class briefly

He played 7 games in 2 seasons. It was a daft signing, a shit signing and a true penny pinching signing that epitomised the penny pinching summer of 2014 where we fell even further behind and left us with mountainous work the following summer that was almost impossible to do.

Cole, Richardson, Senderos, Cissokho. 2014, appalling business.

and gave Lambert, Hutton and Gabby new deals a few weeks into the season after a few early scrappy wins

not sure how we werent relegated last year, for the majority of the season we were the worst side in the league

watching us now we arent anywhere as near as bad as Lambert's time last season

And Sunderland sign that defender we were after from France.

I'm with you. I love the Villa but they're pretty unlikeable at the moment. Moron Chairman, Lackey yes men Directors, crap scouts, nothing players. I'm clinging to Remi and the ground with all it's memories right now. Take excuses aside, and boy have we been making them for the club the last 10 years, which is natural, we want to think the best of them but excuses aside and there are players who would join. Not top players but I've never seen a situation where no one will join a club, it doesn't exist really does it. As is the clubs want, they've chosen to not spend much money and not take any risk at all, accepting that we are down, baring a Remi miracle and planning accordingly.
