I think the deal's agreed but Arsenal are holding back until the end of the window to make sure they don't get any injuries which would lead to them needing him to play. Another reason why there's so little activity in the window until the end of it.

I doubt it. There are only the FA Cup games this weekend, and Wenger will probably play the kids anyway against Burnley.

Last nights Evening Standard said that Villa were in the box seat to sign Debuchy.  They cited Garde's relationship with Wenger as the main reason, however also indicated that Arsenal want a recall option.  Apparently the clubs are negotiating the loan fee.

I would query how much the Evening Standard actually know then - any loan until the end of the season cannot have a recall clause in it. So Arsenal can want it all they like, FA rules say that they can't.

The only way they could have one in is if the loan is for three months or less.

Again, I don't understand all the Gabby bashing. Yes, he's not doing it at the mo, but why all the personal abuse, he is a local Villa fan who scored a winner at the Sty. Am I missing something...?

Because he's a trouble maker, who has contributed almost nothing for years. He can't live on a few goals against those piss pots all his life, he's on a massive wedge.

Ok. What has he done to make trouble?

Bad egg in the dressing room, disruptive

How do you (and others) 'know' this? It seems to be the accepted wisdom amongst us but I've never seen any evidence.
His 'attitude' could be due to depression or some other personal problems. Is there anyone on here who really knows?

I don't.

I have no idea what is going on but it was reported early on that Arsenal wanted to wait until the end of the transfer window. Perhaps Wenger is just being cautious.

There's a lot retrospective 20/20 vision on here. I seem to recall a huge sigh of relief when it was revealed Adebayor wasn't coming?

Not really. Some people in the summer thought he would be a useful player to have, others didn't. Some people now think that Palace have made a good signing, others don't.

I'd guess that it'll be split along pretty similar lines to the summer.

And, allegedly, Palace are helping Spurs out by paying him £70k of his £100k per week wage.

That is some deal by Spurs considering Adebayor left the club in mid September.

But apparently true

Quote
Emmanuel Adebayor's attempt to re-start his Premier League career is being threatened by the fact he is still being paid his full £100,000-a-week Tottenham Hotspur wages.

Despite leaving White Hart Lane in September, Adebayor is being paid in full by Spurs until he finds a new club or for the duration of his old contract that would have expired at the end of this season under the terms of his exit.

Incredibly, that means the striker remains Tottenham’s highest earner, on more than double what Harry Kane currently pockets, even though he is no longer contracted to the club.

Premier League clubs interested in signing Adebayor must negotiate with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over how much of his £100,000-a-week salary they will fund until next summer.

Makes me wonder why they released him if they are still paying his wages. Is he that bad of an influence? Surely if you have to pay him anyway you'd keep in case of an emergency.

Ah. I thought the media said he had his contract paid up. I guess it makes sense.

Yep, you'd think so. Particularly as Spurs only really have one actual striker.

I don't.

Just about everything about Agbonlahor's performances since the day MON flounced off taking his bibs and cones with him has screamed "I really can't be arsed."

His ever worsening poor physical conditioning. His obstinacy towards Houllier about losing a few kilos to get some of his speed back are two obvious examples.

How many decent performances as he turned in over the last 5 years?
I may be doing him an injustice but I can only think of 3, and they're all against the stripey shite.

You're right, he might be well be suffering from depression, his performances do have certain Collymore like air to them, but based on what can be seem, and what's reported, he's as good as stealing his wages at the moment.

Compare Ireland's performances for us, and compare Agbonlahor's over the last 4-5 years and see if you can justify one get pelters and the other not.

Thinking about it, that must be the ultimate insult.

When all the talk was of his contract being terminated by mutual agreement, I, and probably most people, would have assumed he was paid off. Just having a Google and the terms used by player and club back in September, A club statement read: "We can confirm that we've reached a mutual agreement with Adebayor which will see him released from his contract with the club." The Tottenham striker tweeted: "I can confirm that I have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to terminate my contract".

It's not even as though Spurs had a full 25 player squad. You must be one hell of a bad influence to have a club pay you £100K a week to sit your arse rather than be around the club.

The only possible reason for that would to not pay him off in one lump sum, but draw it down week or month by month in the hope that someone takes him on.

But even then

makes no sense to me. If his contract has been cancelled, presumably  Spurs can have no claim on his registration and he can have no claim on Spurs on his wages.

I'm sure one of our legal eagles will put me right, but the contract is an agreement to provide services (play football) for a fixed length of time for an agreed wage with the total remuneration fixed so the club can't just cancel the contract unilaterally. So for the contract to be cancelled, either the terms of the contract have to be met (Adebeyor gets the money owed for the final year) or they come to a mutual agreement. If they're still paying him, surely they must still hold his registration otherwise they're sailing close to restriction of trade, or he's got one of the worst agents out there, which given the size of his contracts would suggest not.

Essentially he's on the transfer list, guaranteed a free transfer but not allowed near their training ground?
