If Austin wasn't keen on joining us in the summer there was very little chance of us getting now.

I'm more annoyed that we seemingly had no interest at all in Afobe.  When you look at the likes of Norwich and Bournemouth going in for him, I don't think it's entirely out of the question he could have been persuaded.

Would have been good for us this season and, worst case (but increasingly likely) scenario in the Championship next year.

Look I'd have loved him at Villa but I'm assuming he's on wages we're just not willing to pay anymore despite his reasonable transfer fee.

Don't assume. It makes an Ass out of U and Me.

Alternatively read something like Charlie Austin will take some convincing to leave QPR for a Premier League club battling against relegation in January.

Now, now, we can't consider anything that might be inconvenient to the "lynch the entire board" argument here, can we?

So we're still moving heaven and earth to get a striker in? This club is fucked, the prevailing wisdom now appears to be that success in any measure can only be obtained by cutting costs. No doubt next season we'll work on a budget commensurate to league one, then if we don't come back up to we'll cut back again and again ad nauseam. Successful business invest... They even have contingencies for when things aren't running smoothly. We've had five years of ad hoc cut backs, and now we're staring down the barrel we are too scared to spend in an effort to preserve our main revenue stream. There are no rumours, nothing about talks with anyone. We've quit haven't we? Bash the board,a lynching is too kind, they're wankers to a man and the wanker in chief is still hiding behind his sofa while this whole sorry mess unfolds. We're not coming back from this in a hurry. The paradox of thrift has taken a hold...

We have to have a bit of faith in Remi though here, he turned down Moyes old coach already so he must see something in Black that makes him want him. Don't ask me what it is.

He speaks french, and errrrrrr

I'd like to think that wasn't the only reason.

"Eric B is a bad young brother " came to mind reading your posts. The power of google actually revealed that the song "Bad Young Brother" was by the English rapper Derek B who died aged 44 from a heart attack and co-wrote the Anfield Rap !

Like someone else said, Austin leaving a championship club to join a club who might be heading back there in 5 months time was unlikely, I doubt the money would have played that much of a part. I'm sure we would have matched what southampton were paying him.

One paper I read today has us in for Ravel Morrison and Rico Henry.  Really not sure about Morrison, but Henry is the LB at Walsall and is pretty highly rated.
