We just need that win. It would change everyone's mood. It has to come sooner or later.

Staying up might be impossible but we need results to get the fans back behind the team , carrying on like this and going down is going to be toxic.

I don't see a team not trying if anything the stupid fouls like the pen today are evidence of trying too hard , desperate to get the ball back. What I see is a team mentally beaten before a ball is kicked. We need some players to come in to maybe drag the rest of them out of the mire.

As soon as the pressure is off in terms of our staying up which will be very soon if it has not happened already, then the current side will start getting some results and play some decent football. I think this is the case, but more importantly I believe the decision makers are of the same opinion.

If that is so, they will prefer to do their acquisitions in the summer. Departures of deadwood can happen beforehand.

I wouldn't be adverse to a few old hands brought in with one eye on next season. Someone mentioned Crouch earlier and if you gave him a contract till next May i wouldn't see a problem. He'd probably do a job this season, and would be capable of contributing next season as an old head. Still, i never thought in a millions year i'd ever type that. :0(

Agree that Crouch wouldn't bad a bad option until the end of the season, but I think we will need pace in the final third if we are in the Championship next season.  He's gone to Bournemouth now, but Afobe would have been a good signing in the summer.

We should have signed Afobe last summer when we had the chance.

Interesting thing at Bournemouth will be whether Wilson gets back in. I would monitor him closely after the injury if Afobe does well as they won't play both.

Wilson unfortunately deserves a crack in this league

And he'll get it when his 30 goals promotes us.

why would any decent footballer consciously want to join the poisonous mess that is Aston Villa right now? It's going to take a purge of biblical proportions at every level of the club before anyone  other than a mercenary would even consider it, especially so after yesterday. Omnishambles doesn't even come close to describing what this great club has become.

I'm hearing the Gabby to Smethwick move is very much on the cards.....

Yeah I heard a couple of guys talking about that as though it's been agreed.

Good riddance.

It'd sum up the quality of the also rans in the PL if Gabby, having performing like he has for us over the last few years, walked straight into another fat PL contract.

Out of all of them, he really deserves to be relegated.

And he's the only one with pace. If he is to go I'd be disappointed. He'll tear up the Championship.

He would need a one hundred percent change in attitude.

Don't think we will sign anyone! Who in their right mind would want to join us in this state on and off the pitch!?

I think offering motivation as an excuse for Gabby is being generous. I don't think the ability is there to be unlocked again if he starts putting more effort in.
I think he's just gradually lost whatever top level ability he had over the last 5 years. He's a bottom half championship player at best now imo.
