Don't think its even worth doing any shopping in January.

Anyone with real value would want a relegation clause and relegation being imminent that just throwing good money away. (Learner money so it might be ok anyway)
Some might even consider coming here, playing through spring to attract offers from PL clubs. But no way we getting a teamplayer thats proud to wear the shirt for the better part of their career.

Besides we got a squad that looks excellent...for Championship fotball.

According to French press we are in talks with Montpellier defender Congre. Hopefully there is not a line of clubs in for him. Looks an athletic specimen.

Good grief he is 30!
Just what the hell is our transfer policy, for that matter have we actually got one except for FIFA 16?

can Aston Villa pay better wages at championship level for some players who might be on lower wages in French/Spanish/Portugese/Dutch League. Just asking if this is doable or not.

If he was 20 no doubt you'd be moaning he was too young. What's wrong with signing a thirty year old?

Yes we could. Apart from the top European clubs most of the rest of them pay what we would consider small wages in our league. Only Juve, Roma and AC Milan have higher wage bills than us in Italy for example. Nzogbia is on as much as Carlos Tevez and would be one of the biggest earners in Italy.

We would need to scout very well and convince players to join the Championship.

A 30 year old who's never kicked a ball in England shoved into a championship bound side with no idea who the personnel will be or who will be manager when we kick off next August. Sounds a cracking plan

Presumably you don't want us to sign anyone at all then.

Not really no. A few loan signings if Garde thinks we have a chance to stay up is all i'd be looking for. Other than that, i'd say Garde probably has a 50/50 chance of being here when we start next season and that's based on the fan's opinions. Whatever the idiots in charge do is quite another matter. I certainly wouldn't put it past them to sack him before we get to May. I'm all for a punt on a player, sometimes it works out often not, but a 30 year old defender from france with no experience of the championship doesn't really convince me that reality has set in yet at Villa Park

Whoever we sign would face the same problems.

Agreed. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Championship is the fifth richest league in Europe.

yes of course. The reason i mentioned loan players is a)they could be of the quality we need to pull off a great escape because b)they don't have to live with relegation. Convincing a premiership quality player to come here permanently is gonna be hard sell unless Lerner agrees not to cut their wages if we go down. Very unlikely i'd say, so you're left with the desperate/rubbish or those coming into a league from abroad for the first time who would quite likely be very happy with championship wages. The trouble with the latter catagory is they're unproven and if lerner and co decide to go off on another tangent in 6 months time and change manager we're have another batch of useless players to go with all the others still on the books from various failed managerial reigns. Now as i'm one of those looking more towards next season and constructing a side who will hopefully get promoted, a  very injury prone right back known for his pace who's 30  doesn't fill me with confidence

So we shouldn't sign another player this month in case we have a new manager? Wow.

Already said it would be a good idea earlier in this thread. Now if Garde wants to bring in a few loans and go for it, then yep its worth a try, but 3-4 players signed permanently trying to stay up seems daft to me. If they're for the championship campaign then wait till August - It will at least be a bit cheaper, and the players will know who and what they're joining
