Is Barry playing much for Everton nowadays?  Might be a decent shout for 6-months and as a base to get us back into the PL.

Played pretty much every game for them.

Edit: in fact, he's played every minute of every league game. So probably not someone they're going to want to send our way.
He's also apparently been in very good form for them.

He was excellent the couple of times I have seen them. Read the game, picked his forward passes. Movement helps in front of him mind.

"Why didn't Barry join the Villa during the January transfer window?"

Not sure if I mentioned him on here but maybe a loan bid for Mirallas? He's not playing at all recently for Everton and will surely want regular football somewhere with euros coming up.

Joined Hull when they were in a similar position in a previous January window if I recall correctly, and that was when he was in his prime.

WRONG - that was Jelavic.

Still a good suggestion, although Spurs were sniffing around him in the summer so might be beyond our reach.  A loan might be a possibility.

I haven't caught up with the last few pages so this may have already come up but with a tournament next summer and not appearing to be in his new managers first choice eleven maybe Benteke on loan? He wouldn't have a problem settling in and their fans don't seem over keen on him.

I keep saying we should offer them £20 million for him - just as they used to to do.

If we need a new keeper (we do, we do) does anyone think Adam Bogdan at Liverpool could be a useful replacement, or at the very least, competition for Guzan? I always thought he'd done alright when he was at Bolton.

If not Bogdan, then who?

Bogdan looks decent but not sure if he keeps it going in a run of games.

Thought Bogdan looked awful at Bolton, can't quite believe he's pitched up at Liverpool but then they did employ Brad Jones apparently as keeper back up for 5 years and he was one of the worst I've seen at this level. Didn't he go on some long run without a clean sheet at Bolton

Anyway I've had a thought of who we should sign if we go down and I dunno maybe it's too simplistic but Jordan Rhodes?

We know he can score goals no problem down there, we know he likes playing with Gestede and we obviously would need to get the best out of him so to me that seems like a no brainer.

Not sure how long he has left on his Blackburn deal but it's a bit like when Fulham went down and then splashed out 8m or whatever it was on Ross McCormack. That hasn't worked out but that's due to how poor the rest of their team is.

Rhodes-Gestede partnership certainly had plenty about it at Blackburn, those two would get 40 goals between them no problem.

I thought the issue at Blackburn is that they didn't really like playing together? Rhodes certainly spent a good period of time on the bench the season that Gestede scoring whatever it was that made us buy him.

Even more simplistic, how about Ayew? He's not far from averaging a goal every other game when he actually gets a run of games, I don't really see the need to jettison one of our very few bright points.

Surely Ayew will move on Dave? I'm sure there's plenty of prem clubs taking notice of his performances like today? He's easily good enough for the premier league and as we saw last year we don't know what sort of release clauses will kick in when relegation occurs.

He's on a five year deal so I imagine the club will ask a lot of money for him if someone does show interest. What I don't agree with is the notion that if we do go down there will be this mass exodus. It rarely happens when clubs go down that players just bail out. Some will go off course and hopefully those we have no use for. And with Ayew it appears me he'd take it very personally and wouldn't ask to leave so I think he'll be around next season whichever division we are in.

Maybe, maybe not. I can't imagine he was on massive money at Lorient, and it's not like he's used to playing for Juventus or Bayern Munich. His International peers aren't really at clubs that are much more impressive than a big Championship club.

I'd have expected Sandro and Fer to leave QPR. I'd have thought Diamé and Hernandez would leave Hull.

Fer was going to Sunderland but failed a medical, Sandro has had work permit issues so possibly put off clubs. I'd actually take Diame in January if he's available.

I think Ayew will go but others will stay, someone like Amavi will be with us until January as I can't see anyone splashing out big money until he gets fit again and starts playing. And if his pace is still intact, he'd be a key player for us down there.

The way that these contracts tend to work (all of the ones that I've seen, which I admit isn't a huge number) is that if you get relegated then your wages drop by a specified amount but a drop in wages triggers the existence of a release clause. It's normally linked to the original money paid, so the logic is that if say, Ayew has done well enough in a relegated side that somebody in a better position than us wants to sign him then there's no reason why it should be for less than we paid originally.
