Amavi seems to have lost some confidence in getting the ball into the box. I suppose that's what being dropped for no good reason and replaced by Kieron Richardson does for you. Nice one Tim.
I wondered if Amavi was reluctant to commit too far forward because he was under strict instructions to keep the shape at all costs. Also City were pretty threatening down our left (most of their dangerous attacks were down that side), so maybe that was in his mind too.

Could have been. But the problem wasn't that he didn't get forward, it was that he got forward then passed it backwards. I still think he's going to be a blinding signing in the long run, he's just got a touch of class about him.

I think it shows our need for that big striker who can do a reasonable job with ball at feet. Maybe it's Kozak, more likely the chequebook will have to come out in January.

We got about as much out of that game as we could have. A good team selection, good formation, an excellent game plan, a point and even NZogbia broke into a trot when he came on.

We are a lot closer to safety than just one point on comparison to the absolute dross that featured last Monday night. City played better than any other visiting team so far this season and went away with a lot less.

I think Alan Smith would rather lose a testicle than say something positive about Villa.

He's a villa fan

Maybe he's Silhillvillain?

What a difference having a tactically astute manager can make, yeah we rode our luck at times but we deserved a point on commitment, organization and desire alone.
Superb start for Remi and the club, well bloody done!

I feel way more confident now we can beat the drop after that performance.

UTV!!

Fantastic point. Didn't think I would ever see Charlie Nzog in a Villa shirt again. Didn't think he did too badly. If Remi can get him playing like he did in his Wigan days, it'll be one of the greatest managerial achievements of all time.

A striker is the problem,
Gestede came on for the final few minutes to try and cause some problems in the air bit if you play him from the start it limits the way you can play
And every time you thought 'get the ball over' it was probably pointless because we had little threat there

So we need a forward who is good in the air, great with his feet, strong, athletically fit, powering bullying personality, a bit of pace with a twist of flair
I think that should do it

Isn't it funny how luckier you get when you play with discipline and organisation.

We even had a Wembley roar near the end. As though we knew they needed a bit extra to hold on.

Much improved, I thought Hutton was excellent. The improvement in the atmosphere at Villa Park was also very pleasing. Positivity is just as contagious as negativity. Let's keep it going.

Yes, that would be great, but I will judge our attacking play another day. Against probably about another fourteen teams in this league, the whole team should be playing ten yards higher up the pitch and we'll have a few more players in and around the box.

Great result.

Before the game thought it would be damage limitation. As a damage limitation exercise that result was magnifique! Especially as the pundits (what do they know?) predicted a stroll at the Park for €iteh. Will also have surprised the other clubs down at the bottom, and their fans.

A great first step forward and a base for Garde & co to work on in the international break. Plus 2 weeks for Duverne to work on fitness levels where needed.

Finally a point gained on the Stripeys! Always good news.

Alan Hutton was very good today.

Agreed.  As he was last week and much of last season.  Is it time for people to accept that he's a very decent player for us?

What's this, picking a team with players playing in their best position, teamwork, intelligent substitutions at the right time and LUCK, wow
