The England team is out.

The biggest take away that it shows he's just not learning from his mistakes. Pollock on the bench so he can pick Chessum at 6 for the extra weight is all the evidence you need that he still sees it as a numbers game of pure brute force, rather than any skill or technique. The 6-2 split further reinforces it and Freeman in the centres instead of on the wing is yet another example of him being clueless as to how saints structure their game to get Freeman into the midfield to punch holes. "He breaks the line in midfield a lot so I'll pick him at centre" is exactly the sort of thinking I've come to expect from Borthwick.

Missed NZ v France, but caught a fair bit of Japan v Italy.
Japan looked pretty good, Italy poor.

Massive loss and a huge shame that Hendy isn't there as an alternative because we don't really have any other proper 15s, even the limited option of Steward is missing with an ankle problem so it'll be Smith and then having to move someone like Murley or Freeman back there if that's not working.

This is going to be a long and embarrassing 80minutes. If Borthwick had any dignity he'd realise how out of his depth he is after seeing this.

We've conceded over 40 points in 3 of the last 4 games and we have absolutely no idea how to score beyond pure brute force. There needs to be a change with the coaching because we don't look remotely prepared to play against anyone half decent. The sheer amount of aimless kicking for Willemse to run back on it's own should be enough to force a complete rethink but we did exactly the same thing for the last 4 games.

The problem largely comes down to what happens when teams don’t understand the difference between data analysis being a key component of a wider game plan versus what you place complete faith into to define your game plan. That’s why England’s kicking game is daft. It’s also what has led to England rushing to the short ball in Test cricket.

The RFU are somewhere betw arrogant and incompetent if they genuinely feel this chancer is the best coach for the job - basically rugbys Mike Bassett
