So essentially a vote of confidence in the 23 who achieved England’s first defeat to Italy!!
Looking at it, another evening of box kicking for us to enjoy with wingers who maybe tall and supposedly good in the air, but on grass I suspect will be exposed against the French back 3. A bit more heft in the pack with Chessum at 6 but I just can’t get on board with either selection or more pertinently the style of rugby.
If we have to suffer a 30-40 point drubbing to elicit a change of head coach, then I’m quite happy to sit through it. That said I’ve no faith that Bill Sweeney has the first idea what’s wrong sadly
Well, although we lost I’ve got a bit of humble pie to eat here. Ollie Chessum was an absolute monster tonight and my man of the match for England at least.
Far from box kicking ever minute we played some brilliant heads up rugby tonight, mixed in with a few head loss moments. It’s got Borthwick out of jail I’d imagine and when we play like that, I’ve no problem with it. I think the longer the winning run went on, the more we wanted to protect it and played not to lose rather than win.
Think Heyes has grown immeasurably this tournament, Coles has jumped a level and is a proper player. We definitely need a bigger 6 in our pack I’d imagine too. Fin proved that he should never have been sat behind Ford all this time and I feel Atkinson and Freeman showed a lot of promise tonight.
My biggest fear is our back 3 and the makeup of it. Roebuck’s USP is meant to be Ariel ability but I counted one he win tonight. If he’s not getting the kick returns he isn’t quick enough to waste time on as one of the wingers. And just please get Henry in the 15 shirt this summer, he’s clearly in my eyes the best full back in England, let’s use him.
So, although I didn’t expect to type this, I feel a lot more optimistic after tonight.
