The best player I have ever seen was John Charles and the crock of gold at the end of his rainbow was the tenancy of a pub, in Leeds I think. That in turn led to excessive drinking and the all too familiar sad end. However, that was considered to be a well planned exit from the game in the not so distant past. Players with less generous clubs got a newsagents.
