CD Fridays are always the worst for traffic. I can make it to Villa Park for an evening game from the north west if I leave work at 5.

Yesterday I took a half day and managed to set off at 3pm. I didn't park up till twenty past 8. The M6 on a Friday becomes doubly horrendous. I came off at J12 due to the closure of J7 and managed to get to Smethwick to nip via Winsom Green and Lozells. I took me an hour and twenty minutes to go 3.9 miles.

Friday traffic = sad face.

You jut know we will get Palace away on a Friday night next year.

I got to the ground yesterday and realised that I had left my purse (with season ticket) in the pub. So I had to leg it all the way back to The Bartons, where someone had fortunately handed it in.

I got back to the ground at about 8.05 and there were still hoardes of people walking and running towards Villa Park at that time.

We left my mate's house just off the Hagley Road at 5.30 and got to VP about 7.15...a journey that usually takes us 15/20 minutes...bottle-necks everywhere.

If that's a normal Friday evening, it's a NO from me!

(Glad to hear you got your purse back amfy. Your round?)

It sounds like Fridays might be worse for people travelling long distance for the reasons Stu mentioned. I think Monday-Thursday are worse for in-city traffic for reasons I stated.

Had there been an M6 crash on a Wednesday, traffic chaos would've been just as bad.

I think Palace away on any midweek, or come to think of it a weekend, is a nightmare!

The previous Friday game was Milwall where it took as long to get across London as it did to get there.

The size of a city on a Friday balloons with workers, tourists and people on night outs. The M6, on a Friday, in August... The stuff of nightmares.

In general, peak traffic in the evening is between 4 and 7, on a Friday it starts as early as lunchtime and does not ease until 6ish. Add to this an accident of the sort that occurred yesterday then gridlock is the only likely outcome.

Watching in the pub there were scores of empty seats at kick off and I was surprised that the KO wasn't delayed.

Who decides whether it should be delayed?

We left Bearwood at six. Given the M6 troubles weren't making it a 'normal' Friday evening, I stuck the sat nav on, just to see what it might suggest. Red lines proliferated everywhere north and west of town. Its answer was a 16 mile detour via Oldbury, M5 and M6. Reluctantly I took its advice, yet was parked up within 25 minutes. But don't think I'll be making that my regular route.

Don't know what all the fuss was about left Manchester at 4.30 parked in usual car park by 7. Was back in Altrincham for 11 after the game.

I am 80% certain its the police and they would only delay it on H & S grounds

I'm just off the Hagley Road and the best way to VP is to take a left at the Ivy Bush. However as I don't drive i'm shit at saying what roads to take etc, but it's a lot quicker than going into town from the Hagley Road. A satnav should help with the route to take that way.

I can vouch for the fact that Mr Shin hasn't got a clue about which roads go where.

He's not even much help navigating from his place to Villa Park.

I still blame him for us almost ending up in Wales on our way to Wigan  ;)

The M6 on Friday's is hell. I give myself five hours to get from 'Nam to Manchester or Warrington. Any other day of the week and I reckon on half that time.

Took us 1hr 40 from Stourport on Severn, usually 50 minutes. Went up Hagley Road to Five Ways island, down towards New street station, left at island past Mailbox, right round island at end of broad St. Then towards Matalan island and over. Way back made up for it as we sailed home in 45 minutes.  Others who went past Albion ground took 2 hours from there.

My normal route in is past the Baggies and then via Handsworth Wood.

Instead I turned left at Jct 1, north of WB, headed towards Walsall for a bit and then cut back down through Hamstead and Brownns Green. As I mentioned earlier, it took a while but it seems like it was a better move than taking my normal route or cutting through town.

He's exactly the same on the return journey!
