At the back Richards, Clark and Lescott have been the principle embarrassments. In midfield, that honour goes jointly to Westwood and Bacuna, and up front to Gabby and Gestede.

Get rid of 5 of those 7 and throw Guzan in as well and I think you've solved most of the problems, I still want Clark to come good (but I fully understand people writing him off) and I don't see the point of getting rid of Gestede this summer.

Going back to the proposed team, the other option is push Ayew up front and get someone quick, creative and with an eye for goal to come in at 10, someone like (although he'll probably get better offers) Hakim Ziyech could work.

Clark could have a good season next year, but he has had a rubbish one by all accounts this year.

I think the Championship will require us to go with a bit of beef up front, or at least a bit of niggle and needle, some sort of budget Diego Costa. Ayew is our best attacking player, but centre-backs would be able to smash him into the stands with impunity in the division we're going into.

Which is why you keep gestede.  I do think that quick, direct players with the ability to beat a man are most effective though.

Perhaps in theory, and he did have one good year in the division, but I'm worried that he's just too horribly shit for us to build the team around him. He's also completely immobile, which makes life harder for the midfield both in attack and in defence.

Gestede is a good squad player to have, especially in the Championship. We absolutely should not be relying on him to get us out of the division because he is so utterly one dimensional and will make use play that way.

To clarify, you keep Gestede so if the quick mobile players are being kicked you bring him on and throw balls into the box as an alternative.

I believe the championship centre forwards would fancy smashing Clark all over the place too. He's gorra go Tom.

We shouldn't forget about Kozak. I don't think he'd score many goals but he'd look as class above in the Championship and would create space for others.

I agree, but he's never available.

I like Kozak a lot but I worry that this latest injury might be one too many for the club.  If he's still here, fit and gets a chance I think he can have a big impact, don't forget the one time where we've looked a decent team all season was when he got a run of games.

I'd forgotten Kozak existed.

Kozak probably has one of those pictures Marty McFly had of his family in Back To The Future. Every so often he'll look to see if his torso is missing or an arm and then all of a sudden he'll shoot back to health, the picture miraculously becomes complete again. The song "Earth Angel" playing in the background as he starts to train again.

Next season will be the last of his contract, not sure anyone will take him off us before then considering his injury record here. Even on a free this summer I reckon it's unlikely anyone would bite.

Are Barcelona not still involved in his future?

I have a sneaky feeling they won't be after Kozak ;)
