Play him from the start every game. He takes the game to the opposition like no one else does.

Christian Benteke was the best Villa centre forward I have ever seen. Rudy Gestede is pushing for being the worst. He really is rubbish.
I will raise your Benteke and Gested with Andy Gray and Simon Stainrod.

I wouldn't say he's the worst, but he's got one attribute and that's his heading ability and that's not enough for the top division.

I'd say Peter Withe was better than either of them and at least Stainrod scored occasionally.

I think taking into account how poor the Villa teams Benteke played in were, he's the best I've seen. He never played in a good Villa side and he still did brilliantly.

It depends on how you define 'better'.  Withe was very effective for both us and Forest but I think Gray and Benteke had/have more ability.  Football is a team game and it is what you add to the team.

On form Benteke was absolutely unplayable, but there were times when if he was off, he didn't seem too fussed about trying to turn his luck round. Granted he had much inferior players around him, but then again Withe played against the best teams in Europe and shone.

Peter Withe didn't disappear in a big final.

True but he also didn't pretty much save an atrocious side from relegation twice. A feat that looks all the more impressive now.

Pity he couldn't head the ball into the net today...

When the ball rebounded off Cech he got the Bambi on ice, off to a tee.

The only time the crowd got excited today and actually made a bit of noise was when he had the ball and went on that run. He's raw, he's obviously nowhere near a finished article and will make mistakes but he's also exciting, will run at players and will get people off their seats. Instead we have to watch Gestede amble about and fluff the one thing he's meant to be good at, heading, and Sinclair who is just a nothing player. He's also an unknown quantity and teams will have no idea how to deal with him.

I very much agree with that QV and I would also like to add the absolute necessity at the moment to give the long suffering fans something to please them.  Already we hear chorused of him being selfish, raw, not the finished article, gets huge wages, not a team player, but by a million miles that few minutes he spent on the pitch yesterday was a shaft of light through the darkness.

Week after week we go home miserable and depressed.  We need players who are crowd pleasers.  Forget the selfishness and the waiting for the ball and the big wages he is supposed not to deserve, he is an exciting player. For 85 minutes we passed the ball backwards and sideways in our own half. Adama came on for few minutes and did what we had been screaming at the team all season. Take the game to the opposition. Be positive. Get on the front foot. In Traore we have a potential match winner. In my humble opinion he should be the first name on our team sheet, if for no other reason than to give the paying customers something to cheer them up a bit

I made a point on another thread but as if relegation isn't depressing enough, you can be sure the likes of Traore and Veretout will be snapped up by other clubs awash with money (and probably Grealish and Gil too).
