"But today Tim Sherwood was playing down expectations around Adama Traore. He signed for £7m but the Villa boss says he's a 'development project' - not really one for this season. I must admit I thought he'd be playing at some stage but Sherwood today said 'I don't want people to think he's the saviour of Aston Villa'

I would hope that isn't  literal and was just designed to take some pressure off him ; I'd hate to think he wasn't going to feature at all this season, little point in buying him if so.

I saw Tim's latest interview on AVTV after the Derby U21 game. He said basically that Traore is short of fitness, so don't expect him to feature in the first team yet. I think he may give him some game time in the Notts County League Cup match but we'll have to wait and see.

In the pre game press conference he said that Traore is fit but may not be ready yet for first team action. That he's very much a player for the future and the step up from the Spanish second division to PL is a big one. I imagine though given that Traore has played some first team football at Barcelona, and being that he is such a raw talent, we'll see him on the bench soon, possibly tomorrow. I can see Sherwood playing one or both of Gil and Jack tomorrow and going 4-5-1 with two wide men. Personally I'd be dropping Gabby and playing one of Ayew or Gestede up front on their own with some attacking options coming in behind him and from out wide.

Sherwood has already proved that much of what he says at times is buster. I would bet on Traore being in and around the first team in the next few weeks, looking a very capable impact sub and then kicking on from there. This just takes the pressure of his shoulders and lets him settle more easily.

no I agree with that. He's such an explosive player that once the players get used to be in the right spot when he blows down he right wing and drives in that low cross it will be devastating. In fact there may not be a more effective impact sub in the league over the next few weeks.

I'd imagine Sherwood is taking the pressure off him somewhat. I don't see Villa spending £7 million on a player that won't play this season.

From those comments from TS it seems as though Traore definitely wont be starting any PL games soon. I'm not going to question TS or the coaching staff in making these decisions, but I hope we see Traore in first team action sooner rather than later...preferably from the bench tomorrow at Palace.

I just posted on the Palace thread, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't in the match squad for that one, and on the bench for County.

Let's also keep in mind Stoke have 3 ex Barca players and at the moment they still look shite. This won't happen overnight
