he also plays intelligently and as though  the ball is attached to his boot with a piece of string.

Traore was linked to Bayern earlier in the summer, but the rumour was that he wanted to go somewhere where he'd get more game time. He is seriously highly rated in Europe and if (big IF) we get him it will be a major coup.

He's also two footed. He seems more left footed by the way he plays and cuts in from the right, but apparently equally assured on either foot.

Nii Lamptey according to BFR was going to be the new Pele.  We seen how that one worked out.  I don't want to decry any of our new signings and really hope all of them live up to the hype but let's be honest, a few weeks from now as history has repeatedly shown, for some of them "shite" will become the adjective when making reference.

Nii Lamptey was a great talent who had lots of trouble settling in, not helped by major off-field problems and a rip-off merchant agent.

That would be pretty unlikely to happen now, when we have a lady to deal with players' every whim.

I would say that, except by all accounts he has been in the UK all week kicking tyres with various clubs so it's not like we stole a march on anyone.

It's a mentality thing. After years of being frankly full as ditch water in the market when we start trying to buy really exciting players we are quick to remember Ferdinand and Bergkamp being whisked from our grasp.

And Juninho came for talks remember. This one does sound pretty far down the line though, and he's already had a look around as others have pointed out.

I know what you mean. And Narwan Grayeb (spelling?) was the best left back in the world when Gregory signed him

would it not be fair to say though that almost every club at some point comes close to targets that end up elsewhere for any number of reasons? If Traore signs for us as an example couldn't Stoke and Liverpool fans be saying the same thing about their missed opportunities. This isn't an Aston Villa thing.

Those comparing with Lamptey should observe the somewhat different physical stature and willingness to get stuck in that Traore has, although the similarity in outrageous technique and skill is uncanny. Traore is also quicker.

He looks a real talent. I hope we pull it off.
