So we all say sorry, well maybe that can wait till Monday, when we read he has had the clause removed and if he does intend to move in the future AVFC will get full market value for him.
Think there is a bit of overkill here, it was not AVFC who booked a medical and before anyone comes back with, no it was his greedy agent, remember he employs him.
Good midfielder in a very average team, watching the Villa for over 40 years, he would not make my top 10 of midfielders, his first touch the last part of this season improved, prior to that his second touch normally ended in a yellow card and the facts that can't be changed 8 goals and 5 assists in his time at Villa. Glad he is staying as he is better that alot around him, but that says more about the current dross we have watched for 5 years.

I'm not sure even now he's quite become the player I thought he would after his first 6 months here. He only played fleetingly that season under MON but the bits I saw looked extremely exciting. It was mainly his range of passing that caught my eye but his ability to break into the box was evident as was his willingness to get stuck in, even though he mistimed a lot of challenges. The subsequent injuries have stunted his progress a bit in my opinion and although he is a very good premier league midfielder he isn't the superstar I thought he would be. He would possibly struggle to be first choice in a 'top 4 side'. That said, after Benteke he's out next best player and above the level we are at generally as a team at the moment, and it's a massive plus to have him staying, I'm delighted. He will help Sanchez with his progress and Gyeye settle also. They have the potential to be a really good midfield trio, depending on the formation we choose.

When we bought him I thought he was an attacking midfield player but since his injury he has looked far more defensive.  I think you would see him look far better if Sherwood was to push him forward more and tell him to let others build the play from the back.

I think it is a combination of shoddy journalistic standards and an audience so used to being let down by the actions of footballers that made is seem credible. The only statement from any parties supposedly involved is the one from Delph asserting that he is saying. The rest is a combination of speculation, media bandwagon jumping and one or two people trying to put the best spin on it to save face for their reaction.

For my part I got it completely wrong when I really should have known better.

Quite true, although when he has got forward in this team he hasn't quite made it pay as much as you would hope. Maybe if Sanchez does the defensive stuff, and the new guy box to box he can be afforded more freedom to attack on a more regular basis, which would probably see him improve that aspect of his game.

If Delph understands the meaning of 'set the record straight' and is not covering up something, it would appear that he was never leaving.

This was all started by Brum Mail journalist Gregg Evans, he first broke the story on his twitter feed that was then picked up by BBC by which time Gregg Evans had already released his online article about the Delph to have a medical, the 2nd that went live is when Sky Sports started the headline.

The rest is history and it went way out of control, the level of abuse on his instagram including some strong level of threats was nothing short of embarrassing, usually player's ignore the haters especially if they are leaving a club but Delph had no choice but to release a statement saying he wasn't leaving and imo he never was.

The architect in all this Gregg Evans who is on the tour with Villa atm has now said the deal was definitely on but Delph changed his mind, he also said everyone in Portugal I.e staff and player's were all under the impression Delph was leaving, this has now been denied by Baker and Westwood who have said they have been in contact with Delph and he was never leaving.

The Birmingham Mail is beginning to be a real problem for us, you had Kendrick's outburst against Lambert that got him removed and replaced with Gregg and now we have this... Not to mention all the stories leading upto the Cup Final. This rag must really dislike our club, if I was Tom Fox I would be having serious words with the producers at Brum Mail and issue them with a final warning.

I had a rant on Twitter about the proposed move so I for one hold my hands up and I apologise for any abuse I may have said about him.

I'm Sorry Delph

I think the days of worrying about not having a good relationship with the local written media have long since gone. Ignore the Mail and give them even less access.

Yep, just freeze them out altogether and give any scoops to the Express & Star.

The Mail really are the pits.

I think the general backlash was fair enough given the certainty with which all media outlets were reporting it, and it looks like an about turn rather than the reports being wrong.  Also, the ridiculously low buy out figure is still "a thing" so I think the outrage was justified.

So maybe "sorry" isn't what we should be saying, but "well done and thanks for changing your mind".

We should all stick to the rule of ITSOTP in both incomings and outgoings.
