Ray Wilkins joins us

Over fifty years or more I have had three business partners succumb to alcoholism. Two died in their fifties the third who is a couple of years younger than I joined AA and is alive though a victim of Parkinson's Disease.  All three of them could outwork and out earn me all day long and they were damn good friends and partners. As for alcoholism and coping with stress our horse racing interests made football management look like a walk in the park

Life is a wonderful mixture of happiness, sadness, stress and boredom. Any true alcoholic will embrace each of these with equal relish as an ideal excuse to get pissed. Although finding out a doctor told your wife and your father that if you keep vomiting blood you won't make it through the night and then being told your alcoholism has caused enough nerve damage in your legs to make it unlikely you will walk again tends to focus the mind. It took me from Christmas to Easter to learn how to walk again. If Ray Wilkins does have a problem (which I wasn't aware of before he joined us) I wish him all the luck in the world.

Jesus Damo, that's a post and a half.

My mate (I suspect half-) jokingly calls me 8 ace, but that's in a different league mate.

Your posts usually make me laugh, but this one's really sad.

Really hope you get better, stick with it, things always turn around eventually.

I got made redundant 3 months ago. Went through a pretty rough patch, but starting a new job tomorrow (tues). Onwards and upwards my friend.

One day at a time Damo, embrace it and enjoy them.  Coming out the other side is not something everyone suffering alcoholic problems manages.  Be proud of yourself that you managed it.  Never lose sight of those that stood by you either.  Well done mate.
