Not to my knowledge .
I think this is a fairly bizarre appointment, similar to the Roy Keane PR stunt.

My sense is that he's been brought in for his network and general experience around top clubs. He may be a knob but nowhere near Keane's stratospheric knobness.

Interesting interview with Ray Wilkins some months ago. I get  the feeling he finds life difficult as we all do from time to time.

Or acknowledged that he was a decent football coach which also enabled his recovery from alledged alcoholism and didn't let it stand in the way of doing a good job.

On the surface of it the real positive here is that he'll presumably be dong less punditry work now which is fantastic for anyone who enjoys watching football on TV. Not saying he's the only awful pundit out there, far from it, but, jeepers he was dull. His most quoted phrase was "couldn't agree more", great insight Ray. On the other hand it did make boring games more interesting as you could run a sweepstake on which minute he's actually voice his own opinion rather than echoing someone elses.

Anyway, stupid, snidey comments aside I hope he's a useful addtion to the coaching staff, feels like we certainly have more depth in that squad than we used to under Lambert, just need to add a few quality players now.

He'll be a useful addition. It's a lot better than the Roy Keane debacle as every one of us new Keane would be gone before the year was out and undoubtedly under a cloud of controversy.
Wilkins knows his stuff. Is he going to make a significant difference that sees us progress from 15th-17th in the Prem? No he's not. I'm glad we've added another experienced coach. But I honestly am not too bothered. When we start signing more quality players then I'll get a twinge in the underpants region.

I think you should always be looking for a regular turnover in coaching staff so that they can bring in new ideas from other clubs.  Otherwise you end up with a cosy and conservative attitude which usually results in a club going backwards.  This can be just as dangerous as having poor coaches.

Whether Wilkins can translate his knowledge into successful coaching of the players, we will have to wait and see.  However, his ideas can be passed onto others who might be able to get it over to the players better.  I am all for having a large coaching staff, with everybody bringing something to the table.

There are many posts I would like to reference.

Some dubious about Ray and others in support of Ray.

Either way, he's going to be us so when we kick off, I'll keep schtum about him.

I don't like him, as you will gather.
I have nil respect for him, as a player and as a Manager, Assistant etc.

His record speaks for itself at this level.

SACKED / SACKED / SACKED  etc.

And his "beloved" team Chelsea went public 6 months before his contract was up...to say it won't be renewed and he can leave immediately.

The guy is a problem.imo. Sacked everywhere. A walking P45.

But respected by the London Media journos though. Alongside Hoddle, Redknapp and now Pardew.

Part of my antagonism about the appointment, is that I REALLY don't know what he can give us. How many Assistant Coaches have we got now?
At this going rate we could field an eleven...and Paul had none after Roy had sold his book using us as his platform/facility to do so.....why so many Asst Coaches?

How about spending money and wages, on players?

IMO... Ray Wilkins is not us. He is London-centric, his supporters come from London journos, not from the North and not from the Midlands...wait up ! James Nursey missed this !!!
