Unless the West Ham deal is completely made up then WE gave up the chance to move him. That's again on us as it was in paying up the stupidly long and expensive contract we gave him

Really weak management by Di Matteo if true. There's a good  1874 podcast interview with Tommy Elphick who goes into some of the bizarre, dysfunctional goings-on at the club at the time.

A year later we had another opportunity to get rid, as Sunderland wanted him.

There are two sides to every story and we are only hearing his. The thing I find interesting is the drip drip of stuff released by this leech. It seems that he wants to stay in the public eye and tell everyone he was the good guy.

Well said Cliftonville Villain. The bloke is a shyster of highest order. I remember a match against Leyton Orient, I think, in the cup on a very cold night. Richards just decided to stop playing after 15 mins and sat down at the edge of the area till he was subbed. West Ham knowing them probably wanted him only if we kept paying his full wages. His time with us is another shameful chapter in that dreadful period.
And by the way Micah you are are shit pundit.

Given what we know about the club at that time, I see no reason to disbelieve him, and I don't see what's in it for him to make it up.

I can't believe that you go from playing for England to looking like a 5 pint pub player if you are grafting in training. The game at Luton, he was absolutely shite and that was not down to injury. Bearing in mind this was Luton he looked completely out of his depth, no positional sense and lack of awareness but still picked up his £60,000 a week. You can say that's the clubs fault for giving him that contract, but you would expect a professional to look as though he was earning it. Yes and I think he's a shite pundit as well.

I find it quite hard to believe to be honest, but we’ve been through so many strange years since MON flounced off. I wonder if it’s a case of both parties being a bit ridiculous.

Two sides to every story with Micah Richards.

It was a toxic time at the club for sure.

I well remember his “discussion” with fans during the abysmal game in the FA Cup at Wycombe where he said the team were all trying and giving their all. This was while Brad Guzan & Lescott flicked gum from the bench and laughed and joked like a pair of idiots.

For me, there’s fault on all sides here, but I’m not buying that Micah is the hard done by hero at all.

Players who aren't playing still have a roll to play. What if we had let him go and one or both of Elphick and Baker had got injured? As has been said, the club was a mess so it's too much to ask for planning in advance.

He got paid
We got promoted
I didn't have to watch him try to be a central defender for two years.
John Terry joined a proper club.
Roy Keane finally got himself a friend

I think all parties should be happy.

He was one of three local born lads that were the ringleaders of the most pathetic and toxic bunch of players we’ve ever had.

As a pundit he loudly doesn’t say a lot !?

He likes to mention his part in Man Citys premier league win but

Less so on his part in our relegation  🤔

Dreadful player and pundit. We had some utter clowns running the club back then so I suspect there may be some truth in the story.
