Sherwood lost his last six games in charge -how did he deserve even more time?

Oh, and that split in the dressing room -how was that helped by the manager saying he didn't want all those useless forrin players -you know the ones, all now playing at PL or CL level.

Twat!!

Thankfully Sherwood has gone on since to prove Villa were wrong to let him go......absolute spoofer as is his captain fantastic Micah.

Sherwood was a tactical genius.

The game that changed everything for both teams.

You do look back at some of the players we recruited and think decent coaches, with enough time, would have had the basis of a good team. Adama, Veretout, Gana all jump to mind.

I have a nagging feeling that we'll be saying the same in five years time about Luiz, Konsa, Engels, Wesley, Trezeguet....

Agreed. Given the speed with which these guys have been introduced to the Premier League, it is bound to take time to bring out their true potential.
For me, what has been questionable in their deployment is the team's gameplay and the instructions given to individuals about how to play ... although, obviously, that's me speculating rather than having any inside knowledge.

There was something about that defeat. It really cut deep. I knew our luck had run out and we would likely be relegated.

That's what made that season so bad, was how far in the distance you could see relegation. I remember in Januady at Chelsea under Houllier 5 years before being terrified at the prospect. Half a decade of rubbish later and by the time we were relgated at Old Trafford, we were just numb to it.

I think the Watford game at home where we actually played okay and still managed to lose 3-2 was when I knew for certain we were down.

Until then I kept telling myself "we string two wins in a row together and you never know". That's when I gave up.

I often wonder if instead of appointing Garde a Pulis/Allardyce type would have kept us up. A lot of people talk about how good some of the players were on paper and went on to be elsewhere. But they didn't do it for us that season. It reminds me a bit of 1985-1987. I always thought that on paper the squad that finished bottom in 1987 was better than the squad that finished 16th and stayed up in 1986.
