I was talking to an old time Man City fan yesterday who said how mortified he was with the way Richards performed for us last season. He like us expected him to resolve our defensive problems at the start of the season.

It got me thinking, despite the awful attitude and performances of many players last season.
The most rotten of the bad eggs in terms of his influence on the team was probably Richards.
His appointment as Captain, his shocking positional sense, his lack lustre performances,his lack of leadership and finally his sulk when asked to play in a position that might help the team.
More telling because it is obvious to fans and team mates that he has all the physical attributes of a very good footballer but chose to focus on his ego.

He just seemed like the sort of defender that relied on his athleticism to make up to his poor position and bad timing. In the PL a defender will get eaten alive with that sort of ideology, but I think he'll do fine in the Chump if he stays on. I had such high hopes for him, but he was worthless.

I'm 48 years old and I've spent a lot of the last 43 years idolising Villa players.  Richards is the first I've hated.
