I think Newcastle and West Ham showed that we are better at the back without him. West Ham the goal only came from the defensive re-organisation post Sanchez going off injured. Hutton was his usual liability but we at least held a back 4 for much of the game. Richards is back and we concede comedy goal after comedy goal. I have never gone off a player so fast watching Villa.
If all this is true then why the fuck are we giving him a game?
I believe Alan Hutton is contributing to the poor form of Richards.Take a look at the average position of Hutton v Sunderland.Look at the space Richards has to cover.http://www.fourfourtwo.com/statszone/8-2015/matches/803352/team-stats/7/OVERALL_01#tabs-wrapper-anchor#:V8H3olfJfUXDVA

The left side of defence drops back but Richards moves forward. Hutton takes his lead from his captain and defensive "organiser" and also stays forward. Meaning Lescott, who did the correct thing, was left all on his lonesome.
