I would love Micah Richards in our team, he is far far better than we have be it RB. CB or even defensive mid .

I wonder how things would have panned out if BFR had fancied Barrett as a central defender.

Played for Oldham at CB before he came to us if I remember correctly.

He was signed as a centre back, probably as Paul McGrath's replacement but he refused to get old.

I'm sure he's a blue nose.  But I welcome him nonetheless.

Richards is a self-confessed gooner...

"I was a big Ian Wright fan when I was younger, so I supported Arsenal.
"Wright and Patrick Vieira were my idols so if the opportunity came to play for them one day I'd take it."

Has he ever played defensive midfield in his life?

Barrett spent most of his time at right back the epitome of the square peg in the round hole.

Micah Richards isn't from Birmingham, you only have to hear him speak to know he's not.

I recall rumours on the messageboards back when we were decent and he was breaking through about how he's a Villa fan and a Brummie - all seemingly based on his Wikipedia page stating he was born in Birmingham. I can recall an interview with him where he explained he was just born here; he's never lived here, he's a Leeds lad and supported Arsenal as a boy.

I think an element of it was confusion with Sturridge, he was at Man City at the time, similarly hyped and really is from Birmingham (and had spent time at Villa as a kid).

I have no problem with this signing and should improve us but let's not hype him up too much. I have seen no evidence of leadership or winner mentality from him. He may have "won" a medal as being part of a very very talented squad but he was quite happy to sit on his arse (apart from loan spell with Fiorentina)  and see out his his lucrative contract with city and that's not leadership.

He was absolutely fantastic in the year they won the title for the first time, I think it was 2011-12. I remember as I was in my last year at Uni. at the time, and I was mates with a Man City fan - Richards got injured towards the latter third of the season and Mancini put Zabaleta in for the run-in, as it looked like they'd let the title slip it was one of the (many) criticisms Mancini was getting for dropping the best right-back in the country. Man Utd blew it and it was all forgotten.

Bit harsh, as although he was not the greatest on the ball or going forward, he was still solid in that position (as Ryan Giggs used to attest to).

He played there against Spuds in the Europa thing last season. Mate who is so one eyed even admitted he was the best player on the pitch by far

I wonder if he is possibly coming to us because TS has promised him the RB position.
I'd rather see him as a CB, unless Timmy has someone else in mind?
