Ultimately we need to compete in the Premier League, so we need to pay the wages.

Firstly, the actual wages he'll be one aren't known. Whenever I read "understood" it means the reporter is really saying "we don't know so we'll make up a number that fits the story". Then, whatever he's on it will be measured against other players. In our company, while not the same as football which is a lot more public, when we hire someone from the outside and have to pay a little more in salary than existing staff we always look at what that means overall and if we should adjust their wages to avoid a large disparity. I imagine if Richards signs it will fit within a framework the club now has for contracts, and if a shift in that framework is required because of the new TV deal for example then everyone benefits.

Even if the figure was correct it would probably be including a signing bonus.

Vlaar to Arsenal?  Seriously?  Jesus wept.  Expect Wenger's head on a stick by Christmas.

Is there space for him in the physio?

If I knew what a 'tonton' was I could probably answer that.

Reading that DM interview, it's very encouraging to hear him say how tactically he's improved in Italy. We'll need some leadership and organisation back there, not that we've had a great deal over the last few seasons.

I'm going to have a guess that it's rhyming slang, i.e. Tonton Macoute = fruit = homosexual.

I would hope that he still has the winning mentality that he developed at City too. Could be another leader on the pitch.

A good signing for us...just a shame we missed out on Milner to complete the City hat-trick.

I think he's talking about that creature in Empire Strikes Back that has it's stomach cut open and used for warmth.

I doubt Wenger would sign Vlaar...its just media bullshit at the moment.
