Injury prone, but in truth one of the most highly rated defenders of his generation.

In English football he was, from 18-23 the next big thing.

A bit over the top to say the least!

Awful signing, another injury prone has been at the back who gave up playing the game seriously a few years ago. Fits in nicely with the likes of Cole and Senderos.

You could be right or he could turn out to be a very astute bit of business. I'd imagine he still has to pass a medical.

We finished 4th bottom.

We are gambling on a potentially excellent player, and that is exactly what we are left with. We are so far behind the 8 ball that something like this is a real coup - especially if the Sunderland wages are correct.

Spot on. If it happens this would be a great signing for where we are.

There is just no way Sunderland offered him 90k. I refuse to believe that.

12 Million PLUS add ons they paid.

This is Sunderland, the normal laws of space & time do not apply.

Just sayin :)

Sunderland offering £90,000 a week for Richards.

Pretty much the entire Readytogo thread doesn't believe it either.

He's on a widely reported £35/40k though big difference. I reckon Defoe earns the most there, similar to his huge Toronto wages.

Probably right, I just enjoy bringing up other clubs over priced signings :)

If we're really offering him 65k a week, it makes you wonder what happened with the Cleverley negotiations.

Maybe Everton is to Cleverly what Villa is to Richards? Better than the alternative. Players can make moves based on location or personal preference over money I guess.

Or alternately (and most hopefully) maybe our situation has changed since the Cleverly negotiations?

Great signing if it happens.  Himself, Okore, Clarke and Vlaar maybe. We could have the makings of decent back line.

CLARK

It's not that hard.

I'm impressed that he had the balls to go abroad for a spell. That in itself is a good sign.

I remember seeing him play for England and thinking he looked really, really promising. Hopefully Sherwood can get the best out of him.

Like that fella we signed a few years back, Paul somebody or other.

The next Paul McGrath
The next Joe Cole

Probably somewhere in between. He is better than Hutton Bacuna Lowton For Starters.
