I agree with OMV, yet every year we go into the summer needing a clear out and we still end up with a not good enough team and squad.

I think you can try and rebuild to quickly so he really needs to get the core players settled early and as much of the dross out. That is a lot easier said than done, look at the last bomb squad.

That fact we still have Zogbia for another year winds me up. It feels like he's been around forever and done chuff all. I've no problem with Given as far as attitude and comitment, but he's earning a mint and he's well past his prime.
Hutton being given a 3 year deal was ridiculous. He did play well for Lambert this season, but I felt after an injury he reverted to type under Sherwood. Shit going forward and an accident waiting to happen in defence (I saw accident...pre-meditated shin murder more like.)

Bomb squad 2 is going to be a bugger to shift. There was a rumour that Helenius was getting his contract cancelled by mutual consent. I'd be looking to do that with 6-7 others too. Particularly the foreign cheapies who are no good. They might as well go back to the leagues they came from and play at their actual level.

I'd also be looking to get rid of all the experienced players we bought last summer. Almost all too injury prone or not good enough.

If this were Championship manager I'd probably be hammering the "release" button on virtually the whole squad and make the game implode in on itself.

I went out for a family meal today (it is Mother's Day in France).

The owner of the restaurant came over for a chat and at one point he asked us where we were from. Now, I always reply "Aston" to this question as most people don't know where Birmingham is, apparently (Are you listening highly-paid Brum Marketing team?). Anyway, upon hearing this, he said "Aston, as in Aston Villa? Oh dear!" And off he trotted, shaking his head.

Two minutes later he plonked a €50 bottle of Champagne on the table and said "On me. You deserve it more than the mothers today".

Brilliant BE. And a lovely gesture from a man who obviously understands the pain of a football supporter

He supports Béziers egg-chasers so he knows about being spanked.

How we have escaped relegation this time is beyond me. Let's just be grateful of that. We never belonged in a cup final this season in reality, yet some favourable draws for once and a great one - off show in the semi got us there.
Yesterday wasn't pleasant and I can't say I will look back on it fondly , yet I am happy we are still a PL club.
What happens this summer will define how long that status will last.

Why didn't we belong in the cup final?

Yes we did belong there. We won the games  and weren't given a bye. That is the Cup.

The real shame is not giving the Tarquins a game.

I probably chose the wrong words, rather think after the trials and tribulations of the season and the quality of our squad in general, we were huge underdogs vs arsenal who have quality in abundance.

But we still deserved to be there, regardless of the difference in squads.

If we had played anything like we did against Citeh, Spuds, Liverpool, Albion, Everton we would not have been on the end of that humiliation.

A lot of people saying that Arse were just too good for us is a cop out really. They did not have to do much to win yesterday.

We were chasing shadows. I don't think it was a lack of effort, just a huge gulf in quality.

I agree. On the day, they were so much better than us.

Citeh finished higher than Arse and we gave them a game and by rights should have won. We needed that type of performance yesterday.

I kept waiting for them to make a silly mistake or give the ball away in a dangerous phase of play or area. It simply didn't happen.

It could have been much worse, they were on top form and we were awful, I think they took their foot off the pedal at 2.0, other wise it could have been an even bigger embarrassment.
