Just got back.

So galling that the tremendous effort to reach the final ends with such a lacklustre display.  Yes Arsenal are a better side, but we made it too easy for them and in truth they wont have had an easier game this season.

So galling that we allowed George Ramsays record to be equalled by Wenger with such ease.

Have to say the photos ive seen of our inept owner laughing and joking with Prince William while we were being taken apart haven't exactly thrilled me.

For the last time George Ramsay was the Club Secretary NOT the manager! The club committee picked the team up to the middle thirties!!
We didn't have a manager until Jimmy McMullen in1934..........and he got us relegated.

You need to get in touch with the BBC about their pre match coverage, then.

Someone rang me up about that. Dave or Laura Mansell (the Villa Archivist) will confirm they hadn't done their research properly.

But does it matter? We were dreadful.

No it doesn't matter. But then again, I'm not the one getting wound up about it ;-)

At the end of the day my team aren't good enough to win the cup. We will be one day. This still doesn't hurt as much as relegation would.
we are/should be able to play better than today, even against Arsenal
But yes, relegation would have hurt a lot more, than today

Even when at 3-0 the game opened up a little bit for us we were feeble going forward.  It was as stark a comparison as you could wish to see.

Arsenal looked like the well drilled, quality side they are.

We looked like we'd just met for the first time in the car park at Wembley.

“There will be some changes.

“There will be as many as we can possibly do. We obviously know we need to improve and I think I can improve the group that are already here as well.

“I’ve done that since I’ve come to the club and I need to start improving a few more and find different ways to play, which suits some of the boys who haven’t played today.

“We’ll start immediately. Some of the boys have already been told they won’t be here next year or they can go and find other clubs. I like to be that honest with them.

“I don’t want to let experienced players be strung along because I don’t think it’s right. We will be bringing in additions.”

Sherwood.

Just back and haven't read the thread yet. They were very good. We were very bad. An embarrassing  Lambert-esque performance with no shots on target in an entire cup final is totally unacceptable. No player came out with any credit, and, as Sherwood said afterwards, the team needs completely rebuilding. Feel really, really deflated after looking forward to it so much.

*sigh*

And a big piece of that is the manager. Lambert accepted mediocrity and failure. I'm hoping Sherwood buys players be it with Lerner's money or a new bloke that never do.
For however long he is manager, do you envisage Sherwood signing a player as good as Benteke?

Or as poor as Sanchez??

I have had other things on this evening so recorded all the build up and the match. My son text to say "don't watch it, seriously don't watch it" so I knew it was bad. Checked out the score and that's enough for me to delete the match without viewing. We peaked in the semi final and the short comings have been glaringly obvious over the last 3 games. Time for some big decisions re the squad.

I had hoped the match would by now by saved to hard drive, to be on constant replay and never to be deleted.

Unfortunatley it didn't last more than 90 mins before being banished into oblivion for eternity (see also FaCup Final 2000 and zlc Cup Final 2010).

I did my bit.
My mate I went down with did his bit.
The people stood next to me did their bit.

What did you do on the pitch?

What a wet bunch of pricks Arsenal fans are

See you all next season

You really think Sanchez was his worst buy, I don't believe that

A thoroughly depressing day that promised so much. Very disappointed in Villa today, they let the fans down. That's all really.

I share your pain. We put in the performance I feared we might. It was worse than John Gregory's team efforts of 2000.
Only player who did ok was Given.
Even our wonderful fans sort of gave up second half.
Looking forward to big changes in that team.

I've been totally numb standing on the train all the way back to Moor street but I'm starting to regain my senses a bit now.

Fuck it - I've been to an FA Cup final which most fans of other teams can only dream of and I had a fantastic day out at the green man, it's just a shame the football got in the way.

At the end of the day my team aren't good enough to win the cup. We will be one day. This still doesn't hurt as much as relegation would.
Excellent post....

Naturally I am disappointed with the performance and result.Having said that for us to get anything today we needed Arsenal to make a slow start as they did last year . Unfortunately they appear to have learnt from that and stated like a runaway train. I understand the emotional outbursts from some posters but sometimes you are just beaten by the better team and have to accept it.

There are a lot of unanswered questions about the Villa but at least they are still in the Premiership and quite frankly despite todays disappointment that is at least something we can be happy about.
