No Cleverley in England Squad
« on: May 21, 2015, 04:36:47 PM »
There were strong rumours he would get a recall.
There are two relegated goalkeepers though :o

Not a title you'd have expected three months ago.

Good thing I think for now as whilst he has been good in the last 4/5 games players should do more to play international football. He needs to sign  up with us and get his head down  and work hard again at the start of next season.

Jamie Vardy in the squad? 4 league goals gets you in the England squad now, jeeze.

Tbf, I've always been strongly behind the premise that international caps should be earned as a result of good Club form, and not just for being part of the England "squad". The lad's played well of late. Good on him. And by the same measure, our Tom should've gotten a nod.

He's been ok (but nothing more) recently but he's still a striker who doesn't score goals.  If you pick purely on the form of the last month or 2 (which is the only time Vardy has looked even a bottom half premier league player) then Gabby has as much of a shot as he was more effective than Vardy before his injury.  The only saving grace is the fact that Berahino, Kane and Ings are all ahead of him but in the U21 squad instead.

Not overly surprised about Cleverley.

I am about Vardy though. Has Hodgson really watched Leicester that much?

He's had him on his radar much longer than that:

Quote
"I watched him when he was still at Fleetwood and players who have that pace and desire to run in behind defenders are always interesting for coaches"

So either a) one of the first things he did as England manager was head off to watch a striker in the Conference or b) was scouting potential West Brom targets in the Conference.

The only circumstances in which Jamie Vardy should get anywhere near the England squad is standing outside the gates of the training ground with his autograph book.

Ha! Indeed I had to look it up before putting something totally unwitty on Twitter earlier.
