I've been nervous about this match since about Thursday which, was when I started to come down after the Everton game.  I'm a nervous nelly, I can't help it.  More stuff gets done around our house between the hours of 3-5pm when we kick-off at that time on a Saturday.  Come on Villa, don't let us down now we're this close.

Complete difference a bit of confidence makes. Another great run and finish, and he had another couple of decent chances but was denied by their keeper.

I know it doesn't matter anymore and I really shouldn't be going on about it but......

we would definitely definitely definitely definitely definitely definitely definitely definitely
have been going down if Lambert was still in charge

I have absolutely no doubt you're right, John, totally agree with that.

That team was wretched and getting worse. The size of the turnaround since reflects very well on Sherwood and very badly on Lambert

I'm not sure we'd have crossed 30 points at this stage under Lambert to be honest. Think we'd be all but dead and buried now.

A different kind of villa win today. Delighted but it was a long second half.

We'd be comfortably sitting bottom John. No doubt about it.

That's the key point, they were getting worse

Absolutely and I thought we were too far gone, just look at the results we have had to get to be pretty much safe. When you consider how awful he was at organising and motivating the team, the fact that he left himself in sole charge of that function is pretty amazing. All credit to TS we are a completely different team now.

I wrote a thing for the fanzine, only a couple of months or so ago, under Lambert, saying that we weren't just on course to be relegated, we were on course for one of those era-defining pathetic relegations, like Derby or Sunderland managed.

I still believe what I wrote back then, we just looked a broken team, gathering a head of steam in the wrong direction.

It used to really grind my gears having his pals on TV saying it was the bad hand he had been dealt. What do you think now McInally?

The fact that we're still not mathematically safe after the way the team has been playing since Sherwood came in shows how much trouble we would have been in. We could have been comfortable sooner had the decision been taken sooner. What's done is done though and I'm looking forward to seeing what Sherwood can do in the window and then being able to start level with everyone else. After winning the cup and community shield of course.

When we win the last two games Sherwood will have won us as many points in 13 games as Lambert managed in 25.
