What month is Sherwood getting sacked again next season Dave? :)
He's leaving in March to take the vacant Man Utd job, obvs.

Think we need to lay off Clattenburg a bit, he is by far the best ref in the country right now and one iffy game doesn't change that.
We don't have to lay off him at all. I don't really care how he performs against other teams, if he is a shit ref when we play then that's what matters.

And on what grounds is he the 'best ref in the country'?

He's a poseur with a strong sense of self importance. No referee should want to be the star of the show, yet he does. And as yesterday proved, he's not a very good referee in any case.

Clattenberg was awful today, but that's ok as it's not like there's anything at stake, give or take £60-70m. He normally refs well to be honest, but Everton are exactly the type of team to exploit his ability to turn a blind eye & push things to the limit.

Great team performance, a few moments of worry but we should have been much more comfortable. Delph was immense.

I bet on us at 3 1 . oh well 3 pts but clattenburg is still a ####

I agree totally. A strutting peacock of a referee and appalling. Not for the first time too by a long chalk. If he's the best ref in the country, then Lambert is the best manager.

what bothered me watching the highlights was that sneaky little twat Naismith wheedling on and on at Vlaar, clearly trying to convince him that he `had every right' to go down under that challenge. They want to clog our players, and then go down at the lightest contact.

Yep, i think 'best ref in the country' is stretching it a bit.

For a long time I think Webb has been, but Clatterberg has been progressing a lot, and based on this seasons form has taken the spot I think.

I agree on Clattenburg. I thought he was a poor ref when he started in the PL but he has progressed a lot and I started thinking last season that he was the best ref in the league.

He chose this match to have his worst game of the season. He does have a very big ego and no doubt thought he was very good indeed.
Unfortunately for us he was very poor.

Bugger everything, we are just playing miles better than before. I think Arsenal wished 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' had won the semi now.

Yes it was a Liverpool-Everton game in 2007 when his decisions favoured Liverpool greatly.

I couldn't quite believe it took him under 70 minutes to book an Everton player given some of their challenges today.

I did chuckle though when the first Que Sera sera chant popped up today and the Everton fans actually gave that a round of applause for beating Liverpool.

Yes, me too. I saw one outside in a t-shirt that made me laugh as well. It said 'I'd Rather Walk Alone'.

Well that was a thoroughly enjoyable day out to Villa Park & 3 points as expected. Just so good to see Villa playing as a Villa team should – positive, energetic & creative. Full credit to Tim Sherwood & his staff. Confident that we will now go on to achieve League safety & FA Cup glory with an unbeaten end to the season - would be nice if we could do it without the drama of constantly conceding silly goals though !

He looked so excited to give them the pen, he couldn't point to the spot quickly enough.

I said the same thing yesterday.

Also, if you watch it back, Naismith does exactly the same to Vlaar just before he gives the pen, i.e. makes contact with the back of Vlaar's leg whilst attempting to get the ball.  The most annoying thing is, is that he was letting far worse things go all day long. It shouldn't make any difference where it is on the pitch, he'd set the bar. He's just another in a long line of refs who want to make sure the cameras are on him

Great result and performance although I could do with the 'added excitement' of a late goal to spice things up.
Totally agree with all the plaudits for Delph, Benteke, Grealish and Cleverley, but I thought Westwood had yet another terrific game before being subbed, he is another one who looks a different player with a new lease of life under Timmy.

On a separate tack, there were some nasty scenes in Witton Lane around 2.40. A load of Everton 'kids' came down, singing and being a bit leary.
Villa fans going into the Holte then responded, and it turned nasty for a couple of minutes with some nasty scrapping and charging at each other, and no sign of the old bill.
It calmed down after a couple of mins, but it was quite nasty.
It seemed that there were a number of coaches parked to by Aston church, and if these Everton fans were allowed to walk from there to the ground, unaccompanied, being as leary as that, then it's no surprise it kicked off.
The weirdest thing is that these Everyon lads really did look like lads, 16 or 17 and looked like a scruffy bunch of loudmouth chavs rather than a 'firm', and a few of them took a real beating.
Being so close to the ground, it really wasn't very pleasant at all.

Oh dear that's not good to hear, should be all on camera at least

Oh well, it was retro day.

I actually thought it was a penalty and would have been fuming if something like that wasn't given for us. Their second though was a clear foul on Given.

Clattenberg was just awful all day though, no protection at all for either Delph or Grealish. Even Gaz Baz started kicking players who I thought looked a shadow of the player I used to know. Shouldn't have been booed either, that was a bit depressing tbh.

The best thing I remember Clattenburg doing in one if our games was shove Carr out of Ashley Young's face in the build up to Young's first goal in the 5-1 game against Small Heath.
