The other thing with Sanchez, he made a great interceptionin our box on about 70-75 mins where he did really well to get back in and spot the danger.  Yes it was a clumsy challenge and yes he gave the ball away a few too many times but giving him a 4 out of 10 is taking the piss, no one in a villa shirt today deserves less than a 7, it was a good team performance away at a side who have scored a lot of goals at home recently and have a very good home record.  For me it was 7s and 8s all round except Benteke and Vlaar who'd both get 9s.

1 more thing, when Sanchez got his first yellow the ref held up 5 fingers and at the time I couldn't think of a free kick given against him for a tackle before that.  Looking through the live feed on BBC backs that up, it was the 3rd free kick against him but the other 2 are listed as handballs, harshly done by in my opinion, the tackle itself wasn't a booking and the totting up that the ref suggested as the reason doesn't add up either.  Seems like he's been booked on reputation to me.

Carlos Sanchez is a very good player. A lot of us fully appreciate what he does for us. Tim Sherwood plainly likes him and he is the one who matters. Pity he is out for the semi final but he is and that's that. God knows who Tom will find to moan about for ninety minutes.

Everyone played well, but Baker and Vlaar were absolutely superb, rock solid. Also, now that he has more passing options ahead of him, Cleverley finally looks a player.

A brilliant away performance, and I'm warming to Sherwood more and more. He may be far from the finished article, but he's articulate and positive, and the team look like they know what they're meant to be doing.

This sums up Sherwood for me too.

The two things he's added are goals (with the help of Congo Waring of course) and minerals.

We've reacted well to quite a few set-backs since he joined, which would have crushed us under TSM2. The Stoke goal, West Brom equaliser, QPR going ahead late.

So well done Tim (and the lads).

See that little smile on Dougs face? Thats because he quietly went and took a dump in Levy's office 80 mins in.

As much as I had, and still have, reservations about Sherwood's appointment and that the result is about the club and not the manager, a small segment of me was pleased for him today. I hope he enjoys the glow of smug satisfaction he basks in tonight.

Kind of an odd game as although the last 15 minutes I was profoundly anxious, we never really seemed in any danger. Apart from danger of our own making we largely controlled it and could have won more comfortably.

Say what you will about Doug but fair play to the old boy he ever misses a game home or away.

He must have realised he will be the only Chairman to be remembered for overseeing a relegation.

Aye but it's a lot easier to do as a multimillionaire who has nothing else to do.
